Just added Cruise Control!

I don't think I ever really learned how Cruise even works. I'm figuring it out. I just found out that pressing the button on the side, drops speed set by 1mph or so, just like the R/A raises it.

To activate it, you turn it on, then press the side button, or just turn it on, and it sets? I seem to loose a little momentum everytime, I think because I'm hitting the side button.

My feet really enjoy the cruise.

Matt,

Did you take any pictures by chance? I've got to get this done in the next week or so. LOOOOOONNNNGGG drive in front of me.

My cruise is dead, and I'm assuming it's that switch.

What do you want pics of ? I probably have some from when I did mine.

Aces, sounds like maybe photos of brake switch replacment. Symptoms were, cruise would randomly shut off. Then finally, would not engage.

As for the high idle, I don't think it works very well either.

I don't think I did p[ics of the brake switch but it's a royal PIA. Expect bloody knuckles if you have big hands and Definitely buy a new retainer clip as you will almost defintely break the old one during removal. IMHO it's easier to just buy a clip and use two prybars and just bust the old one off clip and all.

So where can you get the Cruise Control Set-up? I would surely like to get my hands on one.

You just need to get the mulitfunction switch (direction switch) with Cruise control and swap it out with the one you have without it.

Get it used, junkyard, Dealer... whereever you can get one.

As long as you don't have a mechanical IP, just swap it out with cruise equipted one for the era of your truck... 94-95, or 96+

I hit the side one Matt... but i never turn it off. its always on "on"

That's what mine was like and after 2 years, a new PMD fixed it.

And install the fuse for the cruise in the fuse panel. I will be doing my new Burb when I get it. BTW Advance Auto has the stick with Cruise. was about 130$ IIRC. Also scan for codes. Any stored engine codes=cruise no worky...

To matt:

I just turn the switch on, and push in the side button. to accel 1mph or two, i just push the R/a for a second or two. If I want full throttle acceleration, I just hold R/A. also, as far as the side button, I push it for a second to get it to softly drop 1 mph. If I want full decelleration, I push in and hold the button. on both buttons, when you hold them in for a speed increase or decrease, then release them, the cruise catches again. and of course to shut it off, there is the on off switch, or tap the brakes.

have fun with the new feature!

Lol.. Thanks! Its been about a year later. Oddly enough I don't ever use it. I never really drive straight runs over 10 miles, but If i did, I'd use it. Some days I drive so much my feet hurt. I can run around working like a madman all day with no fatigue, but if I drive around all day my feet get tired... A lot of work moving this big pig beast of mine.

BTW: I still love my truck. Each and every day.
