Thanks to 96TD, whom I got the Cruise Control Switch, (He also gave me a very nice laptop so I can use my Car Code scanner software now!!! Thanks again Brian!)

And Thanks to AcesnEights who I believe broke the ground on this being a plug and play switch...

I now have Cruise!

45,000 Miles driven without it, and I pressed that button and it sure did feel strange! Like someone else was driving the truck!!!

How sweet it is to be able to add cruise so easily in these designs.

I too did the cruise control addition. It s a nice thing to have on long trips or any steady speed driving.

It is indeed a weird feeling the first time you use it isn't it Matt?

I'm sure there are VERY VERY VERY Few vehicles that you can do that too.....

Sure did feel strange Dave.... Sure wish I had it for the 100 miles I drove today to pick it up!

Any drive by wire vehicle it should be plug and play i'd think. Then again any drive by wire car now-a-days comes with cruise anyways so it's a moot point really.

I was so happy when I saw that my 'Burb had cruise. I do almost all highway driving so it's very nice to have. Saves on fuel too... I had borrowed my sister's 5 speed Pontiac Vibe recently and it does not have cruise. I hated driving it. :(

Funny you said that, I recently trailered my Jeep on an 800 mile
round trip, used the 2006 Tahoe - the 5.3, whether in tow haul
mode or not, is too aggressive at keeping the speed when cruise is set.
Get to a slight grade that's longer than 1/8 of a mile or so, and it'll
drop 2 gears and hit 4,000 RPMs - ended up driving without cruise,
it had no problem keeping speed up just by dropping one gear on most
every hill - GM needs to reprogram this, MPGs would definitely be better.
The 6.5 doesn't do this nearly as bad

Thanks for deflating my enthusiasm! I avoid vehicles I can't stick my hand in the engine bay. :)

I hit R/A few times climbing a hill on my testrun and it dumped down and hit 3000 rpm for a bit, before TCC locked up. I havn't hit 3k in my truck in over 2 1/2 years... I guess its good for it now and again.

sorry bout that.

i prefer vehicles that i can stick my hand in the engine bay and work on too.

Have you seen the newer cars that have no engine oil or trans oil dipsticks but instead they have a computer that "tells you" when your low on fluids. :lame:

I prefer to check engine fluids and oils for myself and i say damn the computer.

It is my belief that these vehicles are going to be nightmares when they are 20+ years old....My father had a C6 vette, didn't even need the key in the ignition, as long as its in your pocket, you press something with your thumb....

Too much... Too many computer componenents, too many to fail. COmbine that with inspection stations that wont allow a vehicle to pass if SES light is on....

I love how they are making the cars that drive themselves on the highways...

If only they could stop the ol' folks from hittin the gas instead of the brakes!

I dont think my cruse works. I dont think I have ever tried it in 5 years...
My grand am dosnt have a trans stick. I like that car, I never have to pop the hood. It was cheep and got 50k on it from me, 150k total. If it blows up tomarrow its ok.
Sorry for my ramble :D

Yep, and they will be totally useless when the EMP hits and my CUCV will be cruisin us to safety....

Matt,

Did you take any pictures by chance? I've got to get this done in the next week or so. LOOOOOONNNNGGG drive in front of me.

My cruise is dead, and I'm assuming it's that switch.

Matt,
You're welcome, and that is great that it worked for you.

And for anyone that is thinking about adding this, Matt left my house some where around noon I think, and by 5:30, he already had it installed, and that is after having a 1 hour drive home. So, it doesn't take much, you just have to find the switch.

Yep, And subtract the 2 hours of screwing around with the laptop/scanner!

The hardest part of the switch is getting the steering wheel cover and key/tumbler out.

Steering wheel does not need to be removed, if you use a torx bit without a tool, and a small wrench to turn it.

This link helped me get access to the switch. The PDF file at the end.

It was easy for me because I just had my ignition module out a few weeks ago, in fact, thats what gave me the push to toss in the cruise.

I still cursed, contemplated life a few times while on my back trying to see up in the abyss which is behind the dashboard, with my head hitting the APP pedal, and constantly knocking over my flashlight, but all that was forgot when the cruise magically took over with the press of a button.

You need a small set of external torx sockets to remove the steering wheel cover. I got them at Harbor freight for 5-6 bux.

post 33 has the detailed PDF file on how to get to the ign module / Multifunction switch.
