I know... Injectors, Injectors, Injectors
I am going to buy a set to have on hand. Where should I get them what should I pay + install kit?

First mods will be Nicktane filter adapter and air dog. Should I get 1 or 2 micron? What filters does the air dog take? What do they cost? Any alternatives?

After that where should I start on the quest for reliability and +20mpg?

Pics this evening I hope.

I'd do a FASS over AirDog. There's been alot of problems with them, not only reading here on the interwebz, but also first hand experience with local trucks running them.

Run good filters and it should have no problems getting 20MPG stock if all is well with it. The ZF6 trucks got 20+ bone stock, even 4X4's. As for keeping a set on hand, the core charge is pretty hefty on them. Best place to buy injectors is an actual BOSCH dealer. GM is no longer selling BOSCH remans, but having one of there own companies reman them for them. Several people have commented they are not as nice as the BOSCH remans from external looks alone. And I wouldn't let the injectors scare you that much. Once it has the new style updated ones installed, they have proven pretty reliable. Just don't cheap out as you get what you pay for with them. BOSCH is no guarantee they will last forever, but there track record has been pretty dang good since they redesigned them in 08.

Congrats! I haven't investigated but I believe there are some guys buying a cheap LP from Jegs and it has worked out fairly well for mucho less dinero.

Iirc it is a Duramax van ac Delco pump. I have also looked into a 100gpm raptor.

I have read that air is part of the problem and Clean fuel is the other concern so I would want a pre filter too.

I am going to take a code reader w/ me. It is fairly generic from o' reilly's but it reads codes on our 01 8.1l. Will it work on a lb7?

It has been argued that poor filtration is a cause, low voltage from the FICM, poor inejctor design, and so on and so on. Guys have swapped FICM's added in 1 micron filters with air seperators, played with tuning, bigger inejctors, and so on, yet they still fail. Some trucks go through them quicker than others. The only certainty is that they will fail eventually, but so will most all the others. LLY's are failing about as bad as LB7's do, and more than a few LBZ/LMM's have had to replace injectors for the infamous P0087 code, yet the LB7 still can't shake it's bad rep for inejctors. Personally I run a KENNEDY lift pump(high volume, low pressure design), RACOR/AC DELCO fuel filters at the engine, and a 30 micron pre-filter before the pump because I have no screen in my tank now. I do my best to not let it get below a 1/4 tank to help keep it from sucking air. If I had it to do over again, I would have one of the van DURAMAX lift pumps as it adds a filter into the pump assembly, and has a fuel return on it to let the air out. So far I have over 50K miles on my BOSCH remans, and hoping to get another 50K if I'm lucky. It's just a fact of life with LB7's that injectors will give trouble eventually.

I understand the injector issues. As long as I get the truck cheap I am OK w/ changing injectors.

I will look into the van pump. I am wanting to add a filter and also add the Nicktane set up. If the van pump puts out enough fuel for a truck w/ basic mods then I am all for using it.

The nice thing about the van pump is it has the pre-filter built into it. And I see nothing wrong with using good RACOR/AC DELCO factory style filters at the engine myself. It's what I run on mine. I wouldn't run the plastic WIX filters, or any of the other metal filters, btu the latest factory stryle RACOR/AC DELCO is adual filter coalescing seperator design in one package.

You guys need to come to the 21st century and get spin ons with the tall CAT filters. :D
I got Nicktane's front and back. ;)

Yes it is.

I was 10miles from our meeting spot and he called to say his brother was in a car accident and he couldn't stay and wait.

He said he will bring the truck to my house Friday or Saturday. I will continue shopping until that day but he said he will hold it unless I tell him not to.

Robert, I used to always have a 2wd econ truck for a parts getter/run around truck but my 95 took that slot when i sold my 02 c1500 gmc ecsb and bought my 93 k3500. My hired hand is buying the 95 for 2500 and helping me with repairs to get it road worthy again.

The 02 (if this deal doesnt fall through) will likely get 3.42's and a locker of some sort an mud tires on the rear. That still wont get it out of our nasty mud and soft sand in most cases.

Eaton E-locker perhaps? :)

I take it this one will get the least dirt road time?

take care of her, I will allways be interested! :)

The thing I love about an 02 is the changeable cab filter, and doesnt the dash cluster hold up better than 03+?

Meh, I had to replace the one on my last 02. My 06 has a bunch of burnt out lights but still works. The 03 has no issues other than the PRND321 doesnt light up.

Havent decided on the rear locker but if I am going to replace the ring and pinion might as well throw a locker in.

It will see plenty of back roads, it will get a 120 gal fuel tank, tool boxes, and my 06's bale bumper w/ hydro remotes. I will be on the look out for pyo's to throw on if you ever want to buy it. I wont be worked hard but it will do everything I need unless it snows or rains. Its main job will be driving back and forth to my tree cutter and feeding cattle when I'm done w/ that for the day.
