i just got my truck over the holiday and im just wondering if its running sluggish or if its normal. when i take off even if im slamming the throttle it pulls away slow like a minivan filled with the family.

from what ive read my truck doesnt have the strongest engine so im aware of that but im just curious

Is it factory? Ya know like 8600 LBS and 200 HP?
How many miles on the injectors?

Needs some work: intake, exhaust, Turbo master, 1/3 turn of the IP screw, cooling mods, and a blowby check.
Intake is loosing the snorkel in the fender.
Exhaust is 3 or 4" all the way back with a down pipe.
You need a boost gauge and a pyrometer or you will see the inside of your crankcase with only the heads off...

Then turn the IP screw. It will not be so sluggish then...

thanks guys im gonna go get a fuel filter on friday and check the throttle cable tomorrow. ill keep you guys posted

You also have to roll into the throttle. Stabbing at it won't get you anywhere fast. It isn't a gasser so it takes some getting used to.

If I bury the throttle my truck will roast the tires...its a '93 mechanical pump and waste gate! I would say that your truck is needing some attention under the hood!

1993's with a manual trans did not have a computer or SES light. So everything is 6.2 simple and mechanical. May require adjustments though. (idle etc.) The auto trans had a computer just for the trans. SES means Service E-transmission Soon, but, wait GM decided NOT to turn on the SES light for most transmission codes! So the SES light is a computer power and/or engine stall indicator.

There is no vac pump on my 1993: factory that way. One less part I had to replace...

The factory wastegate is a spring pot set around 6 PSI. The Turbo Master is an adjustable version of this with some extra work in design for proper geometry. Boost creep with a TM is 1-2 PSI on my rig.

I owned a 93 2500 Ext cab 4x4 with the 6.5 and it was a great runner.

It would smoke the tires if ya mashed the throttle.

The wategate control was a spring sort of thingy. IIRC it had a small hose that ran to the Waste gate actuator that forced the gate open when boost reached about 8 PSI or so.

Your truck should run a lot better than what you are describing.

Injectors, IP, turbo ???

How many miles on the injectors and the IP.

What sort of blowby is there. (remove oil fill cap with engine running and see how much vapor comes out)

Easy to start on a cool to COLD morning???

Let us know some particulars.

Missy

as long as i have it plugged in overnight its starts up fine in after a cold night. a little bit of blueish smoke in the morning upon start up but thats the only time. i can drive it park it and start it back up after 8 hours and no smoke when i start it. air filter was changed day after i got it. the engine light hasnt come on at all so im assuming no codes. ill check for blowby tomorrow and update.

its getting about 12.5 mpg right now, 75% of my driving is highway. not sure how normal that mileage is for a 93 6.5

12.5 sounds kinda low. Is that with the plow on? A word of warning 6.5s don't like to be run over 210* they tend to self destruct. Don't go by the red on the factory guage. If your running hot look into a fan clutch mod and a dmax fan.

Just checked for blowby and I do have some blowby goin on but im not sure if its way to much, I know that no amount if blowby is really ok but just not sure if what I have calls for a rebuild. Yeah my truck doesn't seem to run hot at all, it barely gets over 120

120* F? If that's the case there is a lot of your mpg and performance issues. Get a new AC Delco 190* thermostat. At least get your old one out and test it.

Not sure how it can stay at 120,that impressive, must have no thermostat at all. its in high idle probably because its cold or the temp sensor is bad.
