Seem like I read bout noise filter on this site but cant find the thread just decided to join up and ask my grandfather drove gm diesels my dad drove gm diesels I worked at gmc dealer when the ds4 made its appearance on gm diesels so I have some experience but you never know it all and I will ask when it comes to a new IP and I cant find it in gm info but the guy that is diesel tech at my old dealer had never herd of a resistor that u put in pdm so at 180,000 when I got my pdm I had to go to stanadyne dealer for new one wasn't even in their computer parts list so even gm dont know everything bout ds4

You dont need the filter. It can actually present problems, so most pepole remove them.

While the intake is off are you doing an OPS extension hose too?

No I can pull intake in my sleep would rather invest in your fancy walbro lift pump I have put Cummins filter brackets in line and cut the paper off a stock filter with a metal cap just to use the fuel manager for a reserve bowl for ip to draw from thinking bout doing to this truck can I just ditch stock fuel manager altogether if I use a fancy lift pump like one on ur store

When I say Cummins filter I mean 855 ntc bc 3 w filters by pt pump bf957 spin on I hate can type filters hell I grew up on cat and Detroit's cannester type filters I want some thing modern like spin on

And I think the stanadyne filters of the past have caused many air suckin ip failures even back to the box filter when the brass posts got loose thay sucked air have had to retro spin ons on on cav john deere w glass box filter too the 855 Cummins is my fav easy to find cheep filters and the way thay bolt on its easy to make mount to fit any thing if u need a air bleader put a t in the outlet side with a brass radiator drain petcock

Just after lift pump on gm diesels I depend on the sock in tank to to what it was put their for bit older 6.2 trucks say my dads old 1982 k20 chevy diden have in tank filter so I used a precleaner or sediment bowl type setup then a bf957 cummins filtration test rated the filter at 20 micron and on older trucks with engine mounted diaphragm pumps I put a low pressure electronic pump between the tank and precleaner to help the engine pump keep everything full I want to try a walbro like leroy sells cause the precleaner is built in then put a spin on I put my stuff on frame rail in Arkansas but in Alaska with snow packed underneath might want to make room under hood

the oem filter you bypassed IIRC is about 2-3 microns so if all you have is a 20 micron you actually downgraded filtration.

Yea I know the spec but the old 855 cummins pt rotary pump is very close to the stanadyne design and 20 microns dont hurt them and I have never burnt a head&rotor by letting 20 microns in I guess I feel like 20microns is over kill what is the spec on cats newer hi micron filtration I think its 5 micron so I might go with a filter mount from a 3406e since u broght it up 1r-716 is cat filter part no I think im home and would run next door to shop and look at a filter but am in for the night

X2 on AK.

The Walbro has a screen but it is course. I guess its fine enough for Walbro to be happy to sell and warranty. If you going to use the tank sock you'll be OK just running the Walbro, BUT I would definately run a finer final filtration than 20mic.
If you plan on removing tank sock I would install a LP pre filter with 20-30mic filter. The filter has a much larger surface area than the tank sock or Walbro screen so will go further between the need to maintain any of it.
My recomendation (and others) on first stage filtration mircon size is what your running for final, Any trash in the fuel becomes very abbrasive especialy under the high pressures an IP puts out, not to mention the tight clearances the trash must pass though.

Well I have seen class 8 trucks boath ways some older cats and cummins have a primary secondary set up but some have just one I just like to experiment I have worked at gmc dealer and cat truck engine service dept grew up in a junk yard/wrecker service kinda home we had otr and dump trucks too when I was teenage boy so I guess I just like to try the limitations of when was little my dad worked with a mechanic at a international truck dealer later on he ran his own pump shop and I got most of my stanadyne lessons at his place he was into rotary pumps stanadyne cav Cummins pt 3208 cat

Should the walbro pull or push fuel through the primary and secondary or in the middle

You could be fine for years to come?? but a filter is really cheap insurance and a proven way to extend the life of anything requiring one. Whats the goal of going with 20 mic final?

Edit you posted last as I was typing.

Walbro is set up to push fuel better.

I dont disagree I have watched the microns go down with the evolution or electronic injction so I feel like stanadyne just put electronic controls on a old design their pop type lnjctors not as sensitive as the newer ones that require more filtration and I guess my goal is feed the beast as yall say on here I can get filter for n14 Cummins that will spin on same bracket it is a finer filter not sure of spec but ill look in morn I have them in stock to as well as cat 5 micron filters

Well looks like I will ditch sock my truck is flatbed so I can get in pull pick up tube wo droping tank and have always been taught to push with any kinda pump but I wasent sure bout walbro design it looks like the blue label holley lift pumps made to push im gonna put my new ip on and stay w stock arrangement till I get over the shock of the new stanadyne $1100 worth of shock then ill get leroy to hook up a walbro in the new year cause I have never had any trouble out of this truck but it is gonna start my ip wasent cooked just was not what I thought it should b I will give in to a new duratrash to put tool bed on but I got a big miller400D in a army surplus chevy so I want up grade my welding truck and tool truck but my old 6.5 needs attn
