Injector knock on start?

The push on installation kit? Ehh the fender again that's a pita lol so is taking my down pipe off.

The push on installation kit is for the injector return lines. Don't beat yourself up trying to install the oem style with crimps. You already have to do two injectors this way with the push on kit and that's bad enough. Ask me how I know. :blackeye:

Lol I think the installation kit I'm getting only had two crimps so I'm guessing it's push on and the turbo gasket from a 88 ford thunder coup should work as I recall seeing before.

You got the right kit. The two crimps are for injectors 7 & 8. Paul and I found it easier to put the cap and crimp on the injector before installing it in the block, or rather I found it easier Paul has I'm sure done this enough to know better. I was the rookie on the job.

If I put the cap and crimp on how would I get the socket on it with the line of anf what about using a compression clamp.

Paul had the injector socket and that fit over the one plug on injectors 7 & 8. Its just a small cap for one of the return line nipples since its the last injector in the series.

Before I picked up the injector socket I would use a 12 point socket or crows foot. These will allow for the replacement of 7 & 8 with the capped return nipple too. Just rotate the clip so the ends are against the injector.

The real problem with having an injector socket is once you have one, and your done with your own work, you're still tempted to use it and so you invite friends over....

None of my friends have diesels and my gfs truck is a 7.3 and so is her dad's but 7.3 injectors are a cake walk there's room in the bay. What size socket is it.

They are clamps not crimps. Yeah PIA but worth it.

On the other hand there is the "Do it right the first time as there is Always time to do it over". Quite frankly the "clampless" push on hose is a writing checks it can't cash. You don't see air leaks. The return line in the fuel tank is submerged to prevent air getting in the fuel system so why skimp on the clamps to let air in? Lastly My return lines leak as do a few others on here. I hate the smell of wasted fuel on hot manifolds. (Don't worry it won't ignite I have tried or been lucky...) If you were a shop you would have had the joy of doing the job over 3x till you used the clamps on the return lines. I suggest it's better to install the clamps because the side that will leak is under the turbo... One shop I know of here still uses the clamps regardless.

On another note used hose for return lines will blow clean off even with clamps. Use new hose...

The clamps are cheap from Napa or Dorman.

QTY 16 each and that is 2 short as you need 18 for the clamps to the return rail...

Dorman Help! 90099 Fuel Hose Clamp
Gm 85-2000
GM 2005-61 OE#
NAPA, 705-1220 hose clamps, GM, Quantity 16, 1/4", metal pinch style, fuel line

I never use these clamps, they are a PITA to get on or off..
The stock hose works fine without them, they are usually long enough that one can cut the ends off and re-use them once or twice.
I never had one leak or pop off yet.
The after market clampless hose is good for nothing

Bosch usually builds the best of everything when they step in the game. That's who wins here also. Go to a Mercedes dealership, spend $13 and get the push on line that never leaks and lasts 150,000 miles.

I've had fuel and air leaks from the push on hose and added clamps. I guess a trip to Mercedes is in order.

I have the German made line from a local Stanadyne dealer and 2x replacements still soak the return lines in diesel of course on the center 2 injectors under the turbo. Fuel drips off the engine from these when parked nose down. Thus from my experience the push on lines simply don't cut it without the PIA clamps. I am happy there is a cheap source for them now as the GM dealer is expensive and others have this knot headed myth that they are no longer needed and don't include them in kits.

Used 20 year old fuel return line will also randomly blow clean off even with a fresh cut and a clamp. Been there soaked the engine compartment...

I agree the push on Stanadyne lines suck. But the bosch is the factory Mercedes line, never has and still doesn't use any clamps. More MBs diesels out there than chevy by a long shot, and it is not a problem on MBs 150,000 miles on my 300d with factory lines and not a drip yet. Return line nipple is exactly the same size.
