Increase mileage

GM Guy has the best no-cost involved advice. I have a 94 K2500 vin F, auto tranny, 4.10 gears, 265/75/16 Toyo M55 tires, Holset HX35W turbo, 4" exhaust, stock tune, and cab height canopy. The best I've ever been able to get is 15.5 MPG. That was with summer diesel and all highway miles. Once on the freeway I stayed at, or just below, 2000 RPM.

Learning/getting used to staying at, or below, 2000 RPM (60 MPH) was tough when I was used to 70 MPH. It really hurts to have to let the big rigs pass. I don't know if I'll be able to afford a tune any time in the future, but that's what my next step will be. It seems like any time I get close to enough money saved it always has to go to repairs on something else.

I cruise 62mph most days unless i really need to hurry. Depending on the truck and which road im on I might run 50-55. The best I have gotten is 22.5 in my 95 K1500 w/ 3.73's running a/t's, I run mt's now but still bump 20 and dont have my truck nearly as well maintained.

A 2wd w/ HT's 4.10's in town or 3.42's on highway is you best bet. ATT helps either way. 100% town 12mpg isnt that bad imo

Gents, I want to say thanks for all the feedback. It's been great hearing about your experiences with different components. You've given me much to think about. When I make changes, I'll definitely let you know. BTW, the ATT isn't just drop-it-in-and-drive-away, is it? I know the intake has to be modified. I'd probably get a spacer along with the ATT from Leroy. Doesn't it also require some custom oil line and downpipe work?

The intake just needs the tube shortened, a hack saw would do it. Oil line and down pipe are not affected.

my best was 19.5 doing mostly under 60. ON vacation with 2 kids 2 dogs, and wife. Love to do ATT some day,,, that would be the only thing I think I can of that would help me.

. . .the ATT isn't just drop-it-in-and-drive-away, is it?

As others noted, Yes. Follow the directions and if buying it from Leroy, Walking J, or ATT it will come with all the parts for dropping into an OE setup. Only 'extra' on top of installing the ATT turbo is getting a matched tune; the OE tune will run it Ok, but an updated one will run it better.

ATT was a huge help for me. Next after that, that I notice, is tire pressure but the ride does suffer. I already have 3.42 gears so I can't comment on that.

The only mods that need done to install the ATT are Upper intake as mentioned unless you buy the optional adaptor like you said. Also, the drain oil line needs to be modified. Simple. If all your old parts are not rusted and will cooperate the job takes 1 1/2 hours or 1 hour with adaptor.

What modification needs to be done to the oil line? Anything major? I'd be doing this in my driveway with basic hand tools. I've had the turbo on and off a couple times, but modification makes me nervous.
