I'm Sad :(

Aces, FWIW, I think you made a wise choice, assuming you can get that Dodge to run.

However, I made a similar choice in my youth. I owned a 1969 Mach 1 Mustang just after I graduated high school. It was original, unrestored, and had under 70,000 original miles on it. I bought it in 1979 for $600, sold it in 1983 for $1800, and regretted it ever since.

4 years ago, I was really missing it, and after the stupid "Gone in 60 Seconds" movie, you couldn't find a Mustang fastback any more. (I now wanted to by a 67 to avoid emissions laws). So I settled on a 67 Chevelle.

The Chevelle is great, but it's not my Mustang. ...and it cost me upwards of 10 grand to buy it.

A Tahoe isn't a classic, and isn't likely to ever become one, so surely you won't suffer the same distress I had after selling my Mustang. Just keep telling yourself that, eh? :smile5:

Man you guys type fast...looks like im a little late to this thread.

Kenny, dont know why you sold it, but I can relate. In 05' I sold my 96' in order to pay for the D-Max. Biggest mistake I ever made. As soon as it was pulling out the driveway, I regreted it. The guy repainted the entire truck white and put a utility body on. Very nice job, but i had kept the green paint real nice. Year and a half later, I see the guy I sold it to and told him to let me know if he ever sells it again. I ended up buying it back for the same price a month later after he dumped over 10K into it.

Needless to say I will NEVER sell the truck again. The utility body has worked out awesome as it is my service truck for work now, but i do have plans to re-paint the truck and put a bed back on it when the time comes.

So dont kick yourself too much, just keep the buyers info, and stay in contact. That way you may get the option to buy it back if you wanted to down the road. Id have to imagine alot of us here on this site have attachment issues with vehicles. They say its one of the worst things to do, but I cant help it either! Ive hade alot of different cars/trucks, but ive only become attatched to a few. But I still cant believe you get rid of the six five for an automatic dodge though:nono: haha

Ive alway wanted a 2-door tahoe, i wanted one when i bought my 4-door, but i got a sick deal on it...

well fwiw Bill Heath himself told me the Cummins was "a damn good engine". That was the final factor. Dodge is just like the 6.5 , has a few issues but oonce you throw on some aftermarket solutions becomes a nice ride. Time will tell. I'm not outta the 6.5 community yet, I still have the 2000. I could bring that truck too and see if he likes it better....:)

I wont dog ya Ace, All trucks have there strong and week points, You needed a truck that fit your needs and you got on.. hopefully the dealer gets all the bugs worked out and it will be a good rig for you and your family.

When money talks practicality always wins. ACE you have to do what it takes to work out in the end.. Good luck to you and yours. And I have to agree although I love my 6.5 cummins are a damn good engine after all you can't be in the bis as long as they have if you build chit. :grouphug:

I was stationed at Ft. Bragg until last December. A lot of people there were interested in my truck after it was identified as a Diesel and I did a lot of talking up the truck. Even when I was chasing a stalling issue that wouldn't go away I would say the problem is probably simple and it was still cheaper than a new truck. It was and really wasn't really a 6.5 problem, rather an aftermarket part issue. Anyway, I know the guy will enjoy it and since I'm going back there for a couple of weeks, I'll be looking for two holes in the bumper every time I see a 2 Door Tahoe coming at me. Heck, I look for them anyway.

The cummins is a great motor, just so long as everything around it holds together ):h And the resale value of those trucks still amazes me. And as Deere said above, you need a truck that fits your needs. So good luck with it!

Guys flight was delayed...Hmmmm...karma ???
well a bit of good news. Picked the Dodge up from the dealer and damn. Thing has serious power now. That IP was f'ed from the day I drove it off the lot. All Along I was thinking why did I sell the tahoe for this thing. It's not as fast and get the same if not worse mileage. Well the IP was the reason because the truck literally throws me in the seat now. I'm no the fence abot trying to buy the CUCV or just Kepp the 2000 for a beater.

I'd buy the CUCV or find a 1 1/4 ton pickup. The 2000 is in nice shape. the CUCV would probably fit better than the 2000 when in the woods. Plus it would blend in. :D They usually have low mileage on top of that, and i'd think they'd have a good maintenance record with the Army owning them.

But no a/c. old man needs the a/c after chopping wood...:D

D'oh. neither of my truck's have it, well at least in working condition. the blazer had it but the system's missing most of the parts. it'll get fixed eventually however.

2X the 2000 in nice shape, but NO X on the maintenance for the CUCV. How many vets saw fleet readiness reports that exaggerated the "good " condition of the vehicles? CYA rules the military, even at war times (know where SNAFU, FUBAR, and Murphy's law came from? [Murphy was Air Force]). 1/4 of the fleet inoperable, another 1/4 rigged and risky, Officer's signed off on 4/5 ready for battle. Buying surplus is a crap shoot, and sometimes it's a good bet.
You could cash out the 2000 and use the $$ to get the beater and have a bank to fix what may be buried. Even have a grand to add A/C, lots of complete aftermarket kits available for street rods to bolt into anything.

Of course, we are all dust in the wind compared to you and wifey being in agreement.
Good luck Kenny.
