Some of you may remember me. I've been off the forum for awhile. My 6.5 has been running without too many issues. I still lose about a cup of coolant a week, -not sure where the leak is. The oil level doesn't really change, -most of it steams-off I'm sure, but the oil definitely gets skunked from the glycol. I'm not overly concerned about it, -it's been that way for 2+ years. Let's just say that I change my oil about once a month, -or around 2000 or so miles.

For all the praise I've given my DB2 pump, -it can be one temperamental BEE-OTCH. It misbehaves regularly, -by either running away while driving (for very short intervals, -kinda scary, but I'm used to it and it's fun now). I think there's something wrong with either the metering valve, -or the governor.

Some days the damn DB2 just won't deliver hardly any fuel at all. Pressure at the charge pump inlet on the DB2 never drops below 2 PSI. It really feels like something is sticking, or hanging up either in the governor, -or the metering valve. Other days, the thing is so touchy that it is literally a hoot to drive, -damn near burning the tires at every light, -but even for a crazy guy like me, -that gets annoying. Running additives haven't produced ANY positive results with this IP. I used to baby it and run 1 quart of SAE30 per Bill Heath's recommendation, -along with a dose of Power Service to help the cetane numbers out for those cold mornings with the 19:1 engine.

Soooo, -other than that, -it always starts, -always runs, -never stalls, -and usually runs like a scalded cat. The little GM4 screams away with the gate tied shut, -routinely making 24 PSI, -but EGT's never go above 1200 pre-turbo. The IP has definitely got an attitude problem, -and will probably need to come back off and go into the shop.

I am an ex-drag racer at heart, -and I do like to play. Occasionally I will leave hard spinning the 285's to lock up the rear-end, -run the motor out to 4800+ RPM, and grab a handful of second gear and chirp the tires with a nice hard shift, -it really does run damn good for a 6.5, -overall, I'm real happy with it.

Anyone with some DB2 knowledge care to shed some light on what is going on with my IP??

Hey Ratman,i thought you went extinct, glad you'r still around

All i can say is i never had a DB 2 go over 125 thou without developing an issue of some sort with the governor

I suggest a clear return line check for air. My DB2 tends to surge when running out of fuel.
Perhaps the inlet screen could be plugged.

Disconnect the cruise control.

Sticking metering valve on one of my 1993 DB2's caused it to stall when I lifted my foot off the gas. Higher idle and reman injectors solved that.

What year is your DB2 that you dropped in? If it is older than 1985... The governor should have been updated to the EID assembly (elastomer insert drive). The surplus engines I get have this age concern.

Good to see you back around. Ive got a bunch of pictures for you about my recently bought Jeep!. 4'' later. lol.

Thanks for the warm welcome back guys. I've been a little disconnected, -they started monitoring internet at work, -and the kids usually have the computer at home tied up with homework projects. School nowadays is a lot stranger that when I was a kid. Anyway, -I don't know a lot about DB2's, -but I'm about to learn. I don't know what year this pump is, -the shop built it from a core they had. The head and rotor must be in mint condition, because it has never given me any problems with hot starts, -ever. The thing is just real finicky, -and sometimes scares the crap out of me. Sometimes it will high idle at 2000 RPM at a light, -then hunt around a bit. Thanks Warwagon for the PM, -and yes Bison, -I'm still alive, the 6.5 hasn't forced me to commit suicide, -not yet anyway! :hihi:

And Michael, -keep sending those pictures!!
