IGN Module or Starter Solonoid /lead?

Don't be too sure, I did the same thing, then switched back, and it started
fine with the original starter relay - so I put the A/C relay back, and left
it there - still had the same issue a couple of days later.
I wish it would stop completely, it'd be a lot easier to fix. Right now,
it only has start issue about once every other week.

Trailblazers have a a couple solid state relays that are famous for cracking. Loose low beams or the cooling fan control on the PWM signal.

The simple act of removing the relay and plugging it back in gets you a few more days as it pushes the crack together till heat cycles kill it again.

You may have the same issue swapping relays as the disturbance causes the relay to work for a few days again.

Thats the recap from back in September . Heres the update.

NO ISSUES all witner long!!!! Deep freezes and all!:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:

Once temps hit 45 my problem came back with a mean vengeance. Been SUPER busy all week :thumbsup:, and now that I have a nice Long weekend with temps around 50-55 :thumbsup: I can spend some quality bonding time with my starter system.

Its been horrible of late. I've had to rip the inner flap out and jump it with a screwdriver, which always results in fireworks. :nono:.

Before fail condition. I've noticed that if I held the key to crank it would make its connection after a few seconds.

Does this sound like my solonoid lead wire is broken/corroded somewhere? Before winter I re-did both power leads to my starter trying to fix this issue. I took my time, and crimped, soldered, liquid elec tape (which makes it bitch to jump sol now :). Perhaps follow that wire around?

It just doesn't have the same ign mod failure feel....

THIS I will tell you. I am going to run another wire off the sol turn on, so i can easily jumper it. Picture me doing key on at 5:00am in the dark, and running around under the wheelwell trying to get the magical screwdriver position to spin the starter before the glows cool down....

BUT!!! The ol' gal NEVER ONCE made me crawl underneath it in the snow, or the deep freeze this winter! Can't ask for any more than that.

Ideas please guys. Need some help here. I guess I'm dropping the starter again to install my 2nd lead for momentary switch..... ARGH!! :mad2::mad2:

I hope I find an obvious problem while I'm in there.

Is there someplace to get to the small wire going to the solenoid up above? I would think there would be easier access someplace.

I remove the pass side tire and wheel well. You can get your hands in there pretty good and good way to remove the little starter brace (I hope you have one) but to remove it from the starter I drop the starter, rest it on Blocks (THAT YOU HAVE READY AHEAD OF TIME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:thumbsup:) and have the small wrench handy too 7mm? First disconnect the lead from the battery so it has dropping room.

If your in salt belt and small things like to break on you, I recommend cutting the wire and splicing it again if you are not replacing the Starter. I replaced a starter because I snapped the bolt off the working unit.

I already had the replacement, so I just slapped it in and didn't dick around, happy with the new starter thought. Which I think I'm on #3 now.

Seems every time I had stalling issues my starter shits out a few months later, so I was happy with a new one. This was over a year ago.

FWIW since this thread got dredged up, I have had to jiggle my starter relay once since figuring out that was the problem. Still havn't replaced it, I just swapped it with the AC one, which I have no AC anyhow..............

Hope this helps, if not what your looking for, be more specific :)

I just reread your post and you were specific. I should read more, and type less. Sorry for redundant info.

I have no idea if that wire comes off of the IGN MODULE i think? Or the starter relay box.

I just keep thinking that there has to be an easier spot to accessthat wire than through the wheel well.

I've broke a couple of those small studs over the years. Just broke one recently on a used starter I picked up when I was stripping it for install. It's still sitting right where I left it. It gave me no warning. I think it was half broke when I got to it.
