If you were to put together an ideal motor using stock 6.2 & 6.5 & even Duramax parts what would those parts consist of? Thanks.

Is using a new block ok and is there a budget? $3000, $10,000? And do you just mean the parts have to be bolt on direct replacement, can they be modified at all?
 
6.5 assumes a budget.
All the cooling system upgrades.

Need an engine to get to work NOW then get a military surplus 6.2/6.5 started and guaranteed to run 30+ days. Less than $1500.

Otherwise
6.2 for 6.5, Balanced with ceramic coating on pistons, exhaust ports, and precups. Add a ATT or other 'better' turbo.

If you really want to get crazy you might think about a Cummings or Duramax swap if your budget allows this.
 
Never know if ideal means perfect option or best choice for right now.

Ideally, like bk said, P400 block/skirt with new heads honed out, SCAT crank or forged Peninsular crank, have pistons and combustion chamber ceramic coated and then whole thing balanced, seamless rings. Delta 206 camshaft and an A Team Turbo. Extrude honed and ceramic coated exhaust manifolds.
 
Sorry for the late reply but I was having trouble accessing certain areas of the forum like this thread, I kept getting a warning that my IP was banned.

But my question is if you were putting together a motor using stock parts is there a combination of parts using parts from a 6.2 & 6.5 to make a stronger & better running motor or is all the 6.5 parts superior to the 6.2.? Thanks.

generally speaking the older 6.2 blocks seem to be a little better,conversely the 6.5 heads have smaller valves which don't crack quite as easily. not a huge diff
 
The 6.2 block is considered slightly more robust. Same block, smaller bore, ie. thicker webs.
 
Not much difference then. Well then what year 6.5 would you want to look for if you wanted to buy a motor then? Thanks.

No not in a crunch there's some motors for sale around me on Craigs list both 6.2 & 6.5. I think I'm going to pick up the one motor cause it has a turbo setup I need for my 6.5 N/A. There's an oufit not real far from me that sometimes deals in surplus like that I'll have to check them out.

Many 6.2s and 6.5s are sold from coloumbus ohio on the gov. on-line liquidation auction. Many go for $150 each or less if bunched in bigger lots. The 8 military 6,2s that I have came from coloumbus ohio. A few engines are sold from Lockport ,Ohio also. I'll post a link later if no one else does before I get home.

You know BK thats a darn good idea ,I forgot all about those folks, I bought a couple of 94 Caprice 9C1 cop cars off them few yrs. back, I'm going to see if I still have their phone # thanks for the idea.

Thanks AK, that sounds pretty expensive I think before I put that much into one of these motors I think I would be looking into buying a Dmax.
