Update

Just wanted to give everyone an update from my last post. No, I haven't sold the truck :hihi: I did do some mods though. Set timing up to -1.94, new good module with remote wiring. Turbo mod with spring, pushing 11 -13. Clutch fan mod. Now this thing is able to pull my 14000# 5th wheel with style. I even smile at some of the old 7.3's as I pass them. Yup, happy as a bee in honey. Next mod....a mild 50 hp towing ecm from heath. Thanks again guys, and BTW, I did tell 2 other Chevy guys about this site and they love it.

I have a quick question being a newbie myself, what is a koko relearn and how are you setting timing on the IP? Where can I read about this? Is this just one of those things to do to make sure your truck is running tip top?

koko relearn means a key on key off relearn. The following is how you do it.

Start engine and get engine temp over 145 degrees. Fully hot is better.
Shut off
Push accelerator all the way down
Turn key to run - do not start
Leave key on for 45 seconds.
Shut off key and release accelerator
Leave key off for 1 minute
Start truck and let idle for 2 minutes. Note: it may sputter stall etc until it relearns how to run.

Setting the timing is done by using a GM Scanner or something like it. Setting timing to -1.94 gets the most power from the engine using timing only. Read the performance section of the 6.5 for other ideas and suggestions on getting more power out of the 6.5.

Is the 6.5 a dog for power? Factory settings - yes After mods, I'll run it against a powerstroke. :agreed:

koko is setting the IP timing problem is you don't really know where it is setting it. Some scanner wil let you read tdco but not change it. if you have that type of scanner you can use the koko to time it but it might take several attempts and moving the ip to accomplish it
