Another Noob here.

I just bought an 03 2500HD Crew/short bed Durry and I love it. Its got a 155k on it.

I can hold my own mechanically on gas motors, but this diesel stuff is pretty new to me.

The truck came with a Hypertech 3 stage tuner. I like the power, but I'm not totally sold with the tuner itself. Feel free to bash it and give me good reasons to get rid of it.

There is nothing done to the truck otherwise other than 285 All-Terrains.

I want to put in a different valve body in the Allison so it shifts tighter... but again feel free to tell me what I mean by that!

I want to ditch that Hypertech and get and Edge Juice too. Maybe run 4" exhaust from the turbo back??

Again, I'm new but I've been reading as much as I can on here. Sorry if I ask dumb questions sometimes :)

Welcome to the forums!

To start off, the hypertech is an excellent tuner. When your trying to decide on a tuner. The number one thing to remember is what you'll be using your truck for. For towing, and extra power, and the price, you really can't beat it. If your looking into more power, might consider a PPE or even EFILive ( good computing skills needed).

Good thing about an Edge is built in gauges along with adjustibility on the fly. Exhaust depends on how loud you want it. Some say straight pipe (Turbo back) is to loud, others love it. I have a Cat-back for now, but I plan on removing the cat soon.

For the Allison. If you going to be running anything over 100HP or so for along period of time, or drag racing alot it isn't going to last. In that case a complete build is required. But, if you play it safe you can make it last for a while. I have about 420 at the wheels on my stock ally, but I don't drive like an idiot either..:D

PPE??? EFI Live?? Those are just six different letters to me. My computer skills arent bad... Cost? benifits?

As far as performance is there much different b/t cat back and turbo back? I dont care so much about noise.. loud pipes save lives right??:D

What kind of horsepower would you guess I'm running now with the Hypertech?? I guess i really dont know what it should be around stock, I can probably look up what Hypertech adds.

You guys thing messing with the valve body etc is a waste of time then??

Oh yeah, and I really dont think i get enough smoke either, somebody said that was good because it meant I was burning most of it.... I wanna cover somebody in their little hybrid with diesel soot

Hey another colorado member! Sweet! Welcome aboard.

PPE is a tuner like the hypertech, a handheld programmer with stored programs. Excellent programmers. EFILive is a PC based programmer that allows you to program ANYTHING you want. Really sweet if you can afford it.

If you are looking to do your exhaust, turbo back all the way. I seriously doubt you have a cat to begin with. I have one because my truck came from California... sucks but the magnaflow converter flows really good and cant tell it is even there.

We can always meet up and look over that beast if you like, let me know!

First off dont waste money on a transgo jr. They dont do anything for the 5spd allys.

If you want to do tranny mods your gonna need to put down the cash.

If you know your way around trannies you can completely tear the ally down and intall a full transgo but while your in their you might as well build the rest. Even if you dont plan on adding very much power some day you will. id say 75% of people who dont plan to do.

As for an exhaust a 4" madrel bent exhaust will help but not a whole lot. mostly just sound and looks.

If you want some real power sitch the hypertech.

The Edge juice is great. I love them. But they do have a tendancy to loose communication however edge has a great warrenty program and even if the warrenty is up they will replace the moduel and monitor for $250.

PPE is some serious power for canned tunes. However it will tear your truck apart and its hard to fine tune a truck with canned tunes.

EFI Live is of course the best option but you better be willing to commit a lot of time to learning with it and resist the urge to go big with your tunes.

There are quite a few knowledgeable people out there who will work with you and makea great custom tune for your truck at a decent price.

Have fun with it.

I got a guy to cut out the muffler on my stock exhaust and weld a straight pipe in for 20 bucks. I like the sound, not sure how much performance difference there is but it will do until i save up my nickles for a full 4"
