How to install my new Hard Drive?

So the installation is done..whew.

I'm cut and pasting my music files on the new drive and it seems to working very well. Now the big question, can I just cut and paste Kodak easyshare the same way and all the pics will follow? I don't want to try it and find I loose the program or something stupid.
Any ideas guys? Thanks alot.

NO

For the most part (and I don't know the program) files are files, programs are programs. Find the picture files and copy (not cut/paste) them over, tell the program where to find them. Once it has 'em, then you can relax.

When transferring files like you are, I always add one step... I copy/paste them. Then after I'm sure I have everything where I want it, I delete the original ones.

For a while, I have 2 copies. But I never get stuck with no copies :D

I'll see if I can find anything on how Kodak stores pictures...

Kodak Easyshare software is apparently famous for losing pictures, if you do this wrong ... it stores the pics separately from the thumbnails (which you work on and name)... you should have a directory on your hard drive, either named [C:\Program Files\Kodak Easy Share Software\originals], or in [\mydocuments\my pictures\kodak pictures], that has your pictures in it. (They'll likely have different names - Kodak software retains the original pictures).

Try to find this directory and see if all your pictures are there. Once you find it, select all the picture files and COPY them (not cut) into another folder on your new drive. Keep 2 sets for the moment, until I can figure out how to re-allocate the directory space.

I've done nothing yet with my pics Jim. Yet.

I'll look for the best way to do this and post any questions here. For now, I will keep looking for the best way to move all the pics. Yeah, I have almost 9000 pics to move LOL. Just need a good way to sort and move em all without loosing any.

Gerald, I think my original idea was right, from what I've found, losing your pictures is a very real possibility if you try to move them, so for now we're in copy/paste mode, leaving the originals right where they are until we are absolutely sure that you have a backup set.

Did you find the originals in the MyDocuments folder?

Just discovered that you can right-click on a picture and choose 'Locate on computer' - that will tell you what directory the originals are in.

I did find the original pics Jim. I tried moving a few folders and it did work. When I have more time I'm gonna go crazy and move all of em. Thanks for the help...again!

Cool... once you have them all backed up and you're SURE you have them, then you can delete the first set. If you want to.

Glad you're all over it - it's much easier to worry about this stuff up front than to try to recover the files later...

Happy New Year, Gerald!
