How to empty the septic tank ?

I had an issue with my waste tank sensor(or so I thought) The stupid thing would never read "0" it was always on like 25% or even 50%. Well I knew I had just dumped all three tanks, and as usual black tanks say 25%. I decide I am gonna open it up, in the street in front of my house. I found out the gauge was not lying one little bit. I was in deep DOO DOO to say the least. I finally figured out what my problem was though. The place I was dumping at was off level. My trailer was leaning away from the dump outlets and was not dumping properly. I found a new place to dump and all is well. Took forever to "herd" all the turds away too. I am a true believer of the turd tank gauge now.

Basically by keeping balck and grey separate it makes it very easy for black side to get too full of solids to drain properly without somesort of hose flush system which brings me back to why I liked all in one better. Never had any problem getting it to drain.

you are supposed to add some water to the black tank when you add the chemicals. Or you could flush longer to avoid "dry docking" last nights dinner. LOL!

Hey, Ken; Still have the Travco?
My Pace still runs great, and has the Uni-tank, too. Wife and I can go for a week before dumping, and she likes for us to shower every nite; keeps the sheets clean! The clear elbow is a godsend, as you can see it clear and clean. Took me a few times to remember to SHUT the dump valve before putting in the chemicals and a gallon of water. Happy camping!

Yeah , I actually have two of them. One for parts although as I continue to assess the condition of our original one I am in denial that the parts one may actually be in better shape minus a driveline. Cummins/Dodge drivelines can be had pretty cheap nowadays. It's on the backburner but I will rebuild it someday.

That's about what the horse trailer living quarters I have holds... that's why i just crack the grey tank and let it 'recycle' :)
The last time I used my horse trailer, I left the Black tank closed until it got nearly full. Went out and pulled the lever. Boy was I PO'd, when it did NOT come out:eek: Evidently most of the water must have leaked out, and it was mostly solid:eek::eek::eek:

Man, it was sickening. I had to pull it back home, running the hose into it, and dump in the field.

I second the tornado. I installed one in my black tank and it works sweet. Put on a clear elbow on the end of the hose to hook to the trailer, and flush until it comes out clean. The black drain on my toyhauler is really gradual, so it drains slow and needed help. The tornado was worth the $20 and was easy to install

I keep mine shut until I want to drain it out, then I either run the toilet flusher, or often stick the water hose thru the window into the toilet and let it fill (monitor this- ask me how I know), then when you do open it it's liquid, no turd-herding.

I dumped a few gallons on the ground in my yard once, far from my house. Dug a little hole, drained it out of the camper then threw the dirt back over it. For whatever reason my dog went crazy over it, dug the whole area up, got sick, smelled bad and lived outside for a few days after that.

I used to have an old 24 footer that some guy lived in for an extended period. It was so gross, I had to wash the walls and ceiling with bleach mixture to get the nicotine stains off. He apparently used regular toilet paper instead of camper safe TP, it hardened into a big mound inside the tank, diminished the capacity by half. I thought I could free it up and dissolve it with chemicals and water, but no luck. Actually towed it around half full of water for quite a while. Nothing, it was cement.

Yeah I learned my lesson, I think my problem was I was just leaving the tank open at the campground. Now I put a little water in ahead of time and dump it when it's full. No problems since. Just a different setup than I was used to with my old Travco.
