how much fuel is required?

30 GPH free flow to be exact. I used to have a floscan fuel flow meter and I checked one, flowed exactly 30GPH free flow. And flow drops off RAPIDLY if you put it under any pressure.
If it is fresh out the box I imagine it might do that, per OEM manual it is supposed to be 28gph, if doing any HP above stock I highly recommend upgrade to a FTB & Walbro upgrade http://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/showthread.php?572-Feed-The-Beast-Part-I-amp-Part-II-Improve-fuel-to-IP, with pre-filtration to keep crud out the pump which wears pump "innards" over time reducing output underload, IMO the only test worthwhile is a test under loaded condition to know lift pump health http://www.thetruckstop.us/forum/showthread.php?6872-Lift-Pumps-amp-OPS-operation-and-troubleshooting

6.2 turbo did you route a LP bypass? I almost bought a holley blue last night for under 20 dollars + shipping but then I was reminded how noisy they can be. A friend of mine has one. If I wasn't such a tight wad Id probably buy the FRB5 and be done with it but I'll more than likely end up going with the Holley blue and try to quiet it down a bit, the engines already loud eh?
Thanks for everyone's 0.2¢

With a walbro pump like Leroy sells there is no need for a bypass, it is self regulating and will only pump as long as there is a fuel demand sort of along same lines of the OEM pump to "pulse/pump" when fuel is required, another benefit of Walbro they are rebuildable if they become worn out, that said my FRB-5 has been on vehicle for 6+ ????? years and still delivering all fuel I need to this day good pump plus pre-filtration keeping it that way. IIRC the specs for the FRB-5 are 45gph delivery.

I learned of the FRB5 about 5-6 years ago. I had one on my WVO conversion. It pumped 60k miles worth of HOT WVO (160-180*) before I sold the truck. That pump is probably still pumping oil!

Well you guys did it, talked me out of buying a cheap used holley blue. Which is probably for the better ha. I would love to have a FRB5 for the durability but the price vs specs doesn't add up for me unless I find a used one which is impossible! I have narrowed it down between two:
Mallory 4140
Free Flow Rate:140 gph
Maximum Pressure: 12 psi
or
Carter Universal Rotary Vane
Free Flow Rate: 100 gph
Maximum Pressure: 8 psi

The only thing I'm not a fan of is the max pressure of 8 psi with the Carter and the new price of the Mallory (I'd get a used one).
I can't say I wanna spend the money on a new carter either

There is also a chance I'll find one at the junk yard off a medium or heavy duty truck although I bet most of them are probably mechanical for the Detroit and CAT engines.

I have already sent one of these back for warranty from seal failure. Although it was the alcohol rated for Biodiesel and the 240 GPH version. Fairly quiet pump.

or

Carter Universal Rotary Vane
Free Flow Rate: 100 gph
Maximum Pressure: 8 psi

This pump has an internal screen and fuel cools the motor. Results in a steady amount of visible bubbles in the fuel. Brushes exposed to fuel do not like Biodiesel. Recall up to 5% biodiesel doesn't even need a label at the pump. Pump started making noise then would run slow in retirement used as a transfer pump. Noisy pump. Used on DB2 with no issues till the LP failed.

A used fuel pump is not the best choice. How much time and fuel pouring on the ground while changing pumps does it take to pay for a new one? How about wiping the IP out from a failed LP? Or the tow bill? Even the new pumps have issues. A factory style pump good for around a year is only $50.00.

They were used one has 30k and the other 60k iirc but with the reputation in figured a rebuild would be cheap if needed but both run great.

Well that is a good point: rebuildability and parts availability. Both of witch Walbro has support for.
