I'm going to the dealer tomorow to pick up my camper they're fixing, and they promised it would be ready on the 9th when I dropped it off 2 wks ago.

Now I've been there to check on progess and it doesn't look good. I don't think it will be ready and we're going to mrytle beach this wknd.

But here's the killer, They want me to trade mine in and sell me a new heartland north trail NT32BUDS.

I can't believe the price, only 17 thou with my camper. That's 10g below list with7g for mine.

Only thing is it weighs 7,600 lbs. Will my truck handle a steady diet of hills with this amount of weight.

I have been dipped and chipped running straight pipe and will add a d/I exh.

I have a d-max fan.I haven't updated my sig to reflect this yet. any help on this will help me from making a huge mistake if I can't pull this thing.

dipped & chipped ??? who's chip, have not heard of dipped in 6.5 land what is that, what is a d/I exhaust, that much weight with a GM turbo means high boost on hills so you'll need some sort of post compression cooling IC or WMI, you'll also want a FTB mod & h/o lift pump.

But can it live and maintain atleast 55mph up a steep grade with wmI? I maintain 70/75with 5thousand lbs. right now. D/I [diamond eye exh.] My camper is mint and I wouldn't buy w/o a test pull.Mine is paid off, i bought it from them last year. cash. This one would be financed for 15g. That's the mistake I don't want to make, because I won't by another truck. They keep calling me trying to sell me a new one, they must be hurting because they won't let up. Look at that model online and tell me what you would do if presented with this dilema.

You can do it with the larger exhaust and a good fuel pressure pump, as long as you dont expect to maintain 75mph up 9% grades like you do with your current 5000lb camper ):h

On flat land it would be no problem at all, but uphill drop it in 3rd, and stay locked up at 55mph no problem going uphil. 3.42s just too low of RPMs in OD below 65mph.

With WMI, and an ATT it would make it really no problem and you would be back to 75mph uphill :D.

You might need to look into some "supersprings" or some kind of assistance in the back on the 2wd, and maybe some slotted rotors with some performance pads up front.

x2 to Buddy's last 2 posts,

Super springs www.activesuspension.com is what I have been running for about 5 years keeps my bed dead level, regardless of the load I'm hauling easy install.

IMO way better than bags as ride does not change, and you do not have to install onboard air or find a gas station with air to adjust the ride, plus the airbags do nothing for handling issues. Watch the van in the video this is a good addition to the 6.5

I swapped out my front calipers for SSBC twin pistons drilled rotors, performance pads, then later I added rear discs as well.

My Camper weighs 7800lbs and I pulled it easily weight wise with my 1/2 ton 2 door Tahoe. With Heaths TM and V2 and 4inch I had no power issues either. Just overheating.

I know this isn't what you asked, but if it were me and I was still happy with my current trailer.....I'd pass on financing 15G .......

Hey Turbine Doc, would you be able to elaborate on this, or provide a link for info, or PM? I have a K2500 that I'm working over for towing and have been wondering about brake upgrades.

Thanks
Don

What are they fixing and why is it not on time? I would not buy again from a place that can't fix the first one in time to "use" it as intended.

But if you use it enough and want a heavy camper to lug around - it is up to your needs and budget. How often do you go out in it? And will a payment make fuel to use it impossible to buy?

Oh and my MPG would go down on hills with more weight, cargo, in my trailer. Same trailer, same route, same WOT pulls, just different amount of parts/tires in it. From full load to nearly empty.

Is your trailer still there? Sounds like they sold it, or lost it or ran over it, if they won't produce it. I'd tell them that you are coming to get it in a couple days, fixed or not, and if it's not fixed your not paying and taking it somewhere else. They must feel like they've got the hook set and are going to reel you in, if they're calling you like that.
I don't know your situation but it isn't a good time to be buying anything. That payment will be with you for a long time, particularly during the off season.

I'd think the biggest thing you could do to help your truck tow that much would to add an ATT.

Kenny, you towed that much with a short wheelbase 2 door? You're a nut!

I know there have been some posts on this before as I am very interested as well. If i remeber correctly, a rear axle assembly (with disc brakes) from a newer 01+ gm 6.0 gas truck will bolt up with very little modification. This seemed to me to be the easiest way to upgrade to a disc system in the rear. Im planning on doing this in my 96 as funds allow. This is of course after the att, new doors, new fuel pump.................etc etc

And on the spring topic.....I had a shop in danbury add on an extra leaf to the factory stack of leaf springs. The truck has helper springs which handle the heavy togue weights, and the extra leaf helps the truck ride much better when empty. The add-a-leaf cost me a little under $500 which included replacing a broken helper mount. The only thing I dont like about the settup, is that is does ride a bit rougher than stock, which is to be expected. Also the helpers make alot of noise when empty when on any bad roads, which in CT is about all of them.

That Active suspension was like $250, less than 4r hrs to install by myself, and carries a 30 day money back guarantee if you don't like it, a no brainer for me, I kept it, 5 years and still running it. No change to the ride or noise issues.

I have to agree with everyone here. I picked it up this morning and don't want the payments of a new one. They put a new roof on it and tied it up by saying they couldn't get the right glue. I told them if it wasn't ready by the agreed date of the 9th I would fix it myself. and take it home. They gave up trying to sell me a new one when my wife told the salesman if he couldn't come down another 5g she didn't want it. They got it done in two days and we dropped it off two weeks ago and it's a three day job. I think they thought we would cave because we have this trip paid for and would lose our money if we didn't buy a new one. But when threatened with non-payment on my camper it miraculously got done and done right. We use it 3wks a month from may to aug.We take the summers off, and about 4 other wks during the year. My wife is a teacher and I'm self-employed and in my last semester of school. The economy is gonna get worse and we'll find the right one at the right price in a year or two. Thanks for all the help guys, I leave for mrytle beach in the morning. HOPEFULLY LEAK FREE !!!!!
