For my SS hot rod I suggest these folks: http://powerbastards.com/

A spare alt carried with you is not going to help. After you bolt it in and the SOB has gone bad in the toolbox!!!

To fix yours you need to replace the diodes, diode trio, regulator and bearings. The brushes almost never wear out on these. Because the bearings lock up or diodes burn up first.

Keep the pulley off of yours. Seriously Autozone can swap it for you or keep the whole unit for just the pulley, screw the core charge. Pulley runs the tach: wrong size for a gasser and your tach is off.

I think I'll order one from rockauto.com. They sell a NEW bosch unit for ~ 100 $ (and with a discount code a little lower) plus shipping without core charge, so I hope the bosch alternator will last longer than the others. NORMALLY the name Bosch is standing for quality, but who knows today.

But I have to wait till the end of the month, cauz this month money is a bit tight.

Sven

I got a 170 amp AD-244 alternator for my '99 from:

http://www.alternatorparts.com/

Been very happy with it. Never drops below 14 on the meter. Pricey, but well worth it. Just be sure to pull the pulley off your original as they will give you a gasser pulley.

So, I order a NEW Bosch CS-130 alternator from Rockauto.com. ~ 111 US-$ plus ~ 78 US-$ for ExpressMail to germany. It took only THREE days and the alternator arrived here. I didn't paid any sales tax and no import taxes - okay, I dont know why, but who cares. So the total in euro is ~ 135 €. The cheap chines junk I bought three years ago in germany was about 155 € and a reman AC Delco unit from a GM stealer here is about 500 €.

Looks like, that I did the right thing. :D

Sven
