How does pouring water on the IP help?

My truck would not start today when it was hot so I poured water on the IP and it fired up. Can this indicate anything other than the IP? I'd like to know what pouring water on it does before I condemn the IP. If I shut it down and try it imediatly it will start but if it sits for a few muinets it won't. I ocasionally get code 36 which I have heard can be cause some filter harrness...could that be my problem?

Thanks

the IP tend to get hot in hot climates.. hot mettal expands.. clearances get losser and the IP can not make the pressue to pop the inj.. dumping water on the IP cools it off and allow it to function correctly ;)

On the bumper...about five months old. unfortunatly it is a e-bay harness (got it before I knew better) but it is a brand new Standene (or however you spell it) PMD.

I thought that only worked on the 93 and older trucks DS2 pumps? Interesting

I read somewhere to get a LP for a 93 truck because that would give better pressure.

edit: ahh..now I see what you were saying DEERE3594...you wern't talking about the LP but about the water...I'd better get to bed.

Good. Are you using any diesel additive?

Also, have you tried removing that filter harness. See if that helps.
There is a recent thread about that.

Another thought, how is your LP/OPS?

Been using 2-cycle oil. If I understand correctly the filter harness is required on the OBDI trucks. Lift pump works but I believe it may be weak.

I suggest a diesel additive to clean.

Need to check the LP, changed it if necessary.
A weak/bad LP causes the IP to suck fuel from tank and it will ruin the IP in a hurry if it has not done so. Also it may be caused by bad OPS.

Harness is required but if it is bad, it may be your culprit.

Check this thread on page 2, especially the (happy) ending:

There are a couple of member that has 94 and 95 that does not have it. I am not sure if you need it but it is worth a try.

Keep in mind there are two types of 'rebuilt' IP's. There is; rebuilt by testing and replacing only parts that are worn and rebuilt + upgraded(new head/rotor) - not sure if that applies to the DS4 pumps on the 94 and up trucks.
I know it was a major problem with the 92-93 DB2 pumps.

The price between the two will be a pretty big difference.

the cheapest place for a new (not rebuilt) IP that i found was Kennedy diesel. it was about $1190. Heath was around $1400. I would recommend either company as i have bought from them both before, but Kennedy was cheaper.

If you going rebuilt then the cheapest place i found (that i would trust) is Pensacola diesel.

Thanks for all the help guys. I need my truck and am not loaded with $$ so I will probably go with Pensacola. I am still checking everything I can think of but it sure seems like the IP. I know that the OPS was blown for several months before I found it so...

The filter harness is not required, I dont have one. I dont get any codes.

Next time it wont start try removing the filter and plugging the optical sensor back in.

If that doesnt work try unplugging the optical sensor and try to start it in limp mode.

Buddy, does my 96 have a filter harness? I have never heard of this item before! Is that your Camaro in your picture and if yes, what year?

I think just about everything started with a filter harness, but with all the IP replacements they have just been removed and thrown out.

If you look on Heath or SSDS they both sell the harness for a ridiculous amount of money. Its one of those things everyone makes the most profit margin on and one of Heath's first recommendations to replace when reconditioning an older 6.5. But most people dont need them, as they are just to prevent interference from the alternator causing erroneous codes.

My camaro is 97 30th Ann Ed Z28.

IIRC there is a pretty good 'Pro' from the old site that might be able to help you out if you ask nicely....

Just getting around to ordering a pump..been really busy...6 month starter went out...trying to get it replaced...and...........

I'm going with Pensacola Diesel for speed and price and I need the pump number and I don't see any number on it...anybody know where to look?

Thanks for all the advise.
