How big of a pain to change heater blower?

well I changed it in about 40 minutes just tinkering around and going to the barn for tools. And I did put the cover back on. I had to take the ECM out and there were two screws that were holding the ECM tray in that needed to come loose for the cover to come off. I also had to take the left screw out that came in from the top of the tray and loosen the right screw so the tray would rotate out of the way of the cover. One pointer is that the screw hole where the screw with the ground lug on it goes is made smaller than the screw so you will cut into the metal housing when you screw it in, it's easier to run that screw in there the first time before you stick the blower up in there. I even ran that screw in a little crossways pointing up so I could get the socket on it easier once I stuck the blower up in there. Overall not too bad, I'm sure I could do the next one a lot quicker.

So here are some pics of the inside of the blower motor. In the first one you can see a round disc looking area around the bushing. That is the felt pad. The second pic is the outside of the motor, opposite side of the first pic. Depending on the motor orientation you can drill a hole in the felt pad near the top of the felt pad area and then force oil into the pad with an oil can. You can do the same on the other end but you have to remove it from the heater box. Just oiling the one end works sometimes. Is it worth it, someone said they were buying motors for 26 bucks last one I bought up here in AK was almost 100. Looks almost identical to the one in my old 70 chev that I use to be able to buy for 30. So you decide. Up here we use the fans alot. Last pic is our daytime high temp today.

Got mine at Auto Zone (before the new Oreilly's opened) and IIRC it was $23.00 with tax. I was pissed that I spent so much time trying to oil the bushings on the old one. You can see it here (though the price has gone up some $27.00) http://www.autozone.com/autozone/ca...otor&fromWhere=&searchText=&_requestid=346652

Swapped it in about 30 minutes and man was the new one much quieter/smoother. I think my old fan had lost a couple of the weights (for balance) because it has vibrated for the last 5 years.
