Hot truck, why, high boost, bad IAT, cooling issue???

I'm sorry if its been asked before, but at what temp does your fan kick in, and does it stay on when you need it most?

I know its the Heath super duty, but doesn't mean its working proper.

? Just curious Kenny. Is you fan enganged when you are recording these super high IAT's? If your engine is cooking along unfanned at 210+ that isn't helping anything.

A better cold air induction should help too, as that box is probably getting baked by the turbo? Not sure why your the oddball here, you seem to be doing everything right.

Your clutch is engaging, and STAYING ENGAGED? Or does it engage then let up, and then the temps climb to dangerous again before it re-engages? (what mine does, OEM replacement AC-Delco)

DS-125
New Aero-Drag scoop. Features 21 1/2" overall height. Designed to be mounted to carburetor air pan tray. Base is 19" x 11 1/2". Opening is 45 square inches. Rounded inlet provides for maximum air intake. Aerodynamic shape reduces drag. Contoured rear interior helps to maintain air flow.

That should do it!

Found answer to question on your other thread, towing capacity. Sorry to cause confusion over there. I got confused myself, lol.

BTW, his answer was YES.

Well took the new camper for a run this weekend. It is 4400lbs dry and 6000 Gross. Had it loaded pretty good. Was in mid 70s but felt warmer coming home. Going down to Mystic no proble. we didn't leave till 7PM anyway so it was cooler and pretty much a downhill run. Coming home I got it to touch 210 a few times but managed to control it. remember it's only mid 70's and the grades were not too bad. Things I have noticed. Pulling the grades I notice truck seems happier in "3" instead of "D". I don't think the tranny shifts quite right to the power curve but here's the kicker. If you put the cruise control on the tranny shifts better up the grades and seems to hold down ythe temps better. I guess what I'm trying to say is under cruise it seems to find it's own "sweet" spot where as trying to find it manually is harder cause you gotta mash the fuel harder. Packy, i didn't get time to put your turbo on cause Stealer didn't have a drain tube gasket in stock and the last time i had the turbo off for injectors it looked ugly. No reusing it again. What I am thinking(and yes I have to always go outside the box) is I would really like to relocate the a/c condensor and the possible shoehorn an I/C in it's place. Gotta look through the four seasons book to see what I could mount lower with elec fans but then again laziness will probably take over and maybe I'll just go for the ATT and the Heath WMI. One thing I noticed that made me laen more towards the ATT thoery is that EGTs were DIRECTLY relative to engine temps. Once I hit over 850-900 egt the ECT went up quickly. If by controlling fuel I could keep EGTs around 850 or less ECTs played nicey nice.

kenny

your idea about the A/C condenser sounds like a plan to me. My truck's a no A/C truck and it never gets hot when pulling.

I've also found that if I tow in OD the EGTs climb much quicker. With the JD X595 on the trailer on the highway shifting into OD brought the EGTs up to and past 600*F immediately and they kept climbing almost to 8 before i dropped the truck back into 3rd gear. When in 3rd and I kept the TCC locked up(over 50MPH since i've got no option for manual lockup) the EGTs dropped down to 400-500*F and stayed there.

Kenny perhaps just think ATT, then if need WMI.

That should keep the cost thought much lower in your head. And perhaps you wont need the WMI. Unless your heart is set on it already :)

no WMI if I don't need it. I'd really like to go for a spin in guys truck. I can wait a bit longer. The SOP will be deciding factor....
