Poppy here, briefly I'm a preacher, Pastor, farmer, undeserving husband and dad, thankful granddad (poppy). Picked up a 1997 Chevy 3500hd, 6.5, dump body, auxiliary tank, 95k miles, to use on the church farm. Coming aboard to pick your brains and tap your information stores to track down a stalling issue. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

Welcome to the forum Poppy.
Stalling could be caused from any number of issues, or possibly one single unit.
Suggestions from members is, install a clear plastic hose 1/4”, at the front of the injection pump to the fuel return pipe. Watch for air bubbles blowing through the clear hose.
Then there is the ever famous PMD, pump mounted driver, original factory location is on the side of the injection pump, unless it has been relocated. Look on the left side of the pump, if there is a box hanging on there, and, if the wire harness is still connected to it, then a new PMD and harness should be installed, a harness long enough to get it relocated to behind the front bumper.
Check with Leroy Diesel for the complete kit with the proper heat sink.
Leroy is a vendor that helps to keep this site supported.
Another vendor is Quad Star Tuning and I believe He too has the Flight Systems kits.

Welcome.
It will help us if you list your truck and any modifications in your signature line. That way as you ask questions and we need to know some details, it is automatically there on each post you make.

Since you just got it and may not be aware of whats stock and what people have altered already, multiple pics posted of the engine bay, under the dump bed, etc can help.
I’ll fess up, some of us also simply enjoy seeing more of these rigs we like. Haha.

If you take the time and read through the sticky threads in the different sections- there is an impressive amount of info there to help get longest life at lowest cost for the rig.

That 1/4” clear tubing mentioned above is available at any hardware store wold by the foot, you need 6” piece. So buy 1’ cut it in half and save the other half indoors in a sunlight blocking container. The clear tubing lasts 3-5 years depending on your environment and is a good idea to have on 100% of the time. I suggest two new screw style hose clamps with the clear tube, because the spring style clamps don’t fit the thicker tubing properly.

A fuel pressure gauge pre injection pump is also a very good diagnostic too that can be monitored if the truck continues to die.
Also with that many miles, be a very good idea to replace the harmonic balancer and also the crankshaft belt drive pulley, with only Delco replacement components.

Or best - Fluidampr and Leroy's billet pulley
