My computer got some trojan viruses and spyware issues. I have been trying to remove the viruses and spyware, but I screwed something up and need help.

Windows will not load on my machine. It gives me an error message about a missing file "userinit.exe".

I tried to do a system restore and have had no luck as there are no system restore points save in my computer. Is this a product of the viruses maybe?

Any help and suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Does XP have a repair option? Put the XP disc in, boot to it (usually hitting the space key will do it), instead of install, choose repair and see if that will do the trick.

Before you do anything - save any data you have on another computer / storage device - things to save:

Favorites from your browser
Email and address book
My documents folder
Any documents you have saved on your desk top

Save before you do anything or you risk losing everything (from experience) Repair works sometimes - sometimes not - I've always had to do a complete reload from recovery discs or the original OS disc.

If you have multiple disc drives on the machine - save everything to the disc that the OS is not on then pull the drive before you proceed with attempts to repair.

well? Did it work? (I hate it when somebody asks for help and then disappears... I always assume the worst, like their computer is now wiped clean like a zamboni went over it...)
