What is it? these are all the pictures I have of it. Looks like a brand new engine (not rebuilt) Im waiting for the owner to give me a price on it and the story about it.

Rather odd.:skep: No 506 dots in the valley:???:. It does have the mounting bosses for center mount turbo and the oil pressure port in the valley:agreed:. The GEP engines have the 506 dots . The chineese knock offs have the 506 dots and other markings. Interesting. Maybe it is a new top secret design high performance block:cool::cool: or a P400.:sifone::bigear::popcorn:

Its probably a 141 block from 1996. If the seller looks around that flywheel it will have the number. Another member had one like that, it was a 141 but it also had the oil squirts, like a hybrid before the 506 came out.

Maybe a engine for a van or Hummer?

It has both OSP locations in the valley and behind the heads, I thought that was a newer 2000+ 506 feature. I'm not an expert though.

The 141s still had the dot numbers in the valley. The van /hummer turbo heads have the intake mounting bolts angled up at 60 degrees from the gasket surface vs. 90 degrees for the truck n/a and turbo engines.
Have the owner look for the navistar diamond in the valley. A GM block will have GM cast in the rear face of the block on the passenger side. A GM block will also have GM cast in the ledge in front just below the passenger side head.

Barry do you have pictures. Also is the daimond your talking about the two triangle looking markings in your picture?
I just noticed the lifting hook on front driver head in my pictures. Do the 96&^ have that style hook also? Only seem to remember my 93 had those.

It's atleast the equivelant of a 506 block. I did see atleast one triangle in the pic, that pic is at a bad angle, but almost positive that one part of the triangle is what I saw.

The pic was a little blurry after I magnified it to zoom in. All the other stuff is the same as a GEP just missing the 506.

It should also be cast in the pass. side of the block under the head. Mine is cast 506 there as well as in the valley.

The double triangle I posted is the navistar emblem that is on GEP blocks I'll find the GM cast marksIMG_1645_2.JPGIMG_1644_1.JPGIMG_1647_4.JPGIMG_1646_3.JPG

There is no GM cast into the rear face. Only on the ledge on the front passenger side below the head. The alpine green engine is a GEP. there is nothing cast on that ledge.

IMO genuine made in China 506 block, prob assembled in the US:agreed:

i got 2 of them.:nana:
Now Bk,don't call them knock offs,:WTF:
I haven't heard any of them blow up or cracking apart at the seams yet like the mighty US build ones :rolleyes5:

bison, does your have the same lack of 506 in engine valley? how about the same lifting hook?

There should be a date code on the RH rear, right below the head on the bellhousing lip.

GEP Blocks are as follows (format) XX XX X the first two will be numbers the second two are numbers and the last digit will be a letter H= 2001, I was not used then J= 2002 and so on.

GM used a Letter first that was the Month A being January and then followed by the day 01 followed by the year 6 being 96 Or whatever the particulars were

So much stuff out there that ahs been assembled from parts that it can be tough if not impossible to really know what was what.
