Helicoil vs Timesert??

It seems the Timesert has a 'locknut effect' as the fastener threds in. I have no experience with this product.

Helicoil I have used, and it's not *automatic*... You have to hold your mouth just right. :) The tool they supply with the coils is a bit iffy.

I've only used the Timesert on my bike when the oil drain plug stripped the alumnium swingarm.

Drill the hole, cut the shoulder with the cutting tool, tap new threads, put the insert on the tool and screw it in. The steel insert locks itself into place because the tool expands the last couple of threads. The Timesert kit comes with the correct size drill, reamer, tap, insert tool and inserts.

It was absolutely simple to use and I would highly recommend it. Just out of curiosity, what size do you need?

I think they are 5/16" x 3/4"

Thanks for the explanation. People said they were superior to Helicoils, but no one would or could explain why. Sounds so much easier to do too.

:)
