HEATH or KOJO?

The GM8 was bought from Clearwater not Heath. I don't what him not being a vendor has to do with this discussion.

Ferm, if you can't post the details of the Clearwater GM8 here, Please PM it or post it at DP. I would like to read up on it. I have not heard of it and am in the market for my CUCV. Does the ex flange exit the same ?

I couldn't find alot of details out about it, but here is what I found. Clearwater sells em for $650 through them(you can find them in there ebay store http://www.ebay.com/sch/headsbycch/m.html?_dmd=1&_ipg=50&_sop=12&_rdc=1 )but since he runs a shop and deals with them for work he got it for cost which I can't post. It is made by a company called http://www.cfpowerinc.com/ and they really don't post many details about it. What we did find was that the intake impeller in it was .300 smaller, but had more vanes on it than a stock GM-8. Also the intake housing had a longer runner to it per say where it funnels down. The exhaust side was a slight bit larger in OD than the stock GM-8 turbo by about a 1/2 inch, but the inside of it looked identical as far as the elbow goes. For the most part it was a bolt on swap with just some minor mods to the rear turbo support bracket due to the larger exhaust housing.

The company you are talking about is a Chinese manufacturer, they changed the gm eight just enough to get around the gm patent.

I think the gm-8 is way too small on the exhust side, i have one and i'll never put one on again, my egts run too hot, and i have a stock computer, as far as heath and the ATT, i think he sells good products, but i belive if your going to runn an ATT you should run the tune for it, which is the kojo.

It was Patick at Walking J that I believe recommended the Heath unit for the auto tranny, not Kojo himself. Patrick sells both and the Heath costs more.

Kojo is able to keep the TCC locked with zero to mininal TPS, or deceleration, so if thats the main factor he can do it if specifically requested.

Yep, tcc lock at 0% Throttle is available and new tables for gear change are in test phase...

He told me the same thing (I have a 5 speed). I like my KOJO tune, only complaint is the turnaround time, which is understandable given his location. I had to have my tune tweaked a bit, and had to wait 5ish weeks to get the updated ECM. He let me keep the original until it arrived and I just sent the bad/old one to Patrick.

Can you describe more what is TCC lock for? What is (are) the advantage(s) and how should thta impact the for that advantage of an automatic tranny vs manual one?

Normally tcc lock keeps torque converter locked on highway speed which saves some fuel, but it can be programmed to stay locked when you lift your foot from throttle so you will get engine braking.
I think it doesn't impact automatic tranny advantage compared to manual because it can be programmed so that radip throttle release will release tcc lock too.

Thiss TCC talk is very interesting. mine will stay in lockup until I hit the brake. It is a stock chip. BNMN. I think, not 100%. Which does help a little.

Since I discussed the Ebay turbo here from CCH, I figured I would post an update on it. He has been fighting low boost and defueling since he installed this turbo. HE didn't get on it for the first 500 miles or so to let the turbo break in, but once he did he has run into boost problems with without towing. I loaned him my sensors to try out to make sure it wasn't anything simple, but turns out the PCM is pulling fuel due to high IAT's. He said it's breaking 300 at anything over 1/2 throttle with this turbo, and needless to say isn't really happy with the power. I'm trying to get him to try out my GM-4, or swap my GM-4 center into his GM-8 housing and try it and see if his power comes back up. He's at the point now where he's thinking of trading it for a buddies powerstroke as he needs something with more power than the 6.5 is giving him.

So I would not reccomend the knock off turbo from CCH to anybody.

Just further reinforcement that if I ever am going to try anything besides my GM8 it will be an OE turbo and not an offshore unit.

Even if I have to by a ragged out unit and rebuild it myself....

I'm guessing that .300 small impeller wheel opening doesn't work as well like they said it would. He was worried about it before he put it on, but went ahead and put it on anyways. The truck ran better with a bad GM-8 than it did with this turbo on the top end. It does spool instantly though and helped out his bottem end, but only being able to hold 4-5 pounds of boost because of teh PCM defueling isn't cutting it.
