Heater Hose Quick Connect Coupler Leaking..... Again.

Got the job done last night around 9PM. All the NAPA parts cost me $11.36

Its going to be a good solid setup now, not 100% on the way it looks (spliced hose and radiator clamps look cheap to me).

Also added the 195 degree A/C Delco stat. It now runs a 'lil warmer. Hope i see a difference im mileage. This should put me over 20 on the highway if running warmer is more efficient.

Good job with the repair. It's a dumb design, for sure.

I ended up replacing the 'quick connect' on the 'burb because it started leaking about 1 year after replacement. At least it didn't break on me when I took it out.

I don't cut the aluminum tube off at all. I lube up the heater hose with wd40 and slide it over the rib. one clamp on the nipple and a clamp on both sides of the rib.
 
I could have slid it over, but a 9PM i just got the mini tubing cutter out and made quick work of it. Kinda hard fumbling the hard line under the intake.
 
What is the significance of restricting the orifice when replacing the quick-connect with a brass fitting, does anyone know
 
Flow rate through the heater core is slowed down so the core can transfer the heat better.

The core does not need a huge flow to work well. Also to keep the bulk of the coolant flow from the RH side of the engine going into the radiator instead of flowing into the heater core and not cooling it in hot weather.

The heater dumps into the cold side of the radiator and if you flow too much through the core it will not cool but instead just dump hot water back into the cool water coming from through the radiator core.

In a nutshell thats the reasons for the restrictor. In winter it might not make any difference at all.

I am going to go and pick up the restricted one, from Napa. Best to have more flow to the radiator for better cooling performance.

Way back when I did this to my jimmy I was wondering why it wasnt just a straight opening. I replaced it with regular pipe fitting. My heater and defrost work really good.
