I've gone through (2) dimmer switches in the past two years now. Granted that they have been from Oreilly's so maybe it's cheap junk? I'm thinking about going with an ACDelco one for the 3rd go around. Anyone else have problems with their dimmer switch going bad/ having a short life?

if you use any higher wattage bulbs than stock you will have issues. I put my headlights on relays and no more issues

GM ran the power to the head lights THROUGH the switch, verry crappy idea, small wires.. You might look on GMT400 dot com, there is a guy that sells a new wiring harness for the headlights that is plug & play, all 4 on w/brights, hooks to the battery and pulls the power directly from the bats... 100$ for his harness I love mine.... bright lights all the time now.. no hot switches either...

I would be prone to believe you have a crappy switch problem myself. The early style switches are pretty solid IMO. I haven't had many fail running 65 watt bulbs. Of course as the electrical system ages, so does the current draw from aging wires. Adding in a headlight relay setup would take all of the load off of the switches.

Thanks for the assist guys. I'll look into the new wiring but will go ahead and purchase an ACDelco switch since I need a new one anyway.

Check Rockauto for AC Delco switches. Definitely incorporate the relays. I have 35 watt HIDs, relays and All 4 on Hi. You need the right housing for the HIDs. I've posted on this before. Like in the last coupe months
