Head gasket job under way

They were light to dark brown, look very brittle, but none were broken...yet. I got the CPS, OPS and 16 rocker arm retainers all from Rock Auto delivered for $106.34 CAD The CPS was a beotch to get out, think it has been in there a while and no doubt flaky. Always had a hard start which took about 5-10 seconds to clear up, hope that is what it was.

Pretty much destroyed it getting it out, and wonder which orientation it needed to go back in. The retainer is keyed but looks like it still could go one of 4 ways. I am sure a guru will chime in soon:rolleyes5:

Just found an old thread by BigT and I see that the bracket and sensor are suppose to be one piece. The new one would have explained it to me.

Yes the new one has the sensor and bracket as one, it seems as though they all come apart when removing them.

Got the new rocker arm buttons in, rocker covers on and injector lines on and tight (what a beotch of a job) I'm sure if GM worked at it, they could have made it even more awkward to get at!!!! Progress is being made though.

Glow plug harness stealer can't find this either, I found this one, nice but expensive. Anybody have a supplier for cheaper?

Yes, ptwiringsoloutions (Bruce) is a member here (racedaymechanic).....Agreed, the GP harness price is expensive but, the Quality is first rate, second to NONE....If you can swing it, purchase it. The material is super high heat rated and the workmanship is awesome.....His products EXCEED GM quality ratings, It'll surly be the last GP harness you ever buy.

His Battery cables are made of the same Quality and workmanship.......Bruce is a Certified Nascar Team (Rusty Wallace) mechanic and really knows his $h!t.

If I had the scratch, I'd buy both setups.....

Agreed, he makes good quality products and when it comes to replacement the dealers price on the same parts would be a lot more for less quality. Maybe after I recover from this $800 plus job.

Well I got Old Smoky running again tonight, had on small diesel leak from one of the injector return lines (mickey mouse clamp I think):mad2: Cut a bit off and reclamped and all looks good. My luck must be changing, it was probably the easiest injector to get at!:D

Mangled them a bit getting the heads (with exhaust manifolds still on) off. Did not see any compression ring leaks but the entire HG seemed soggy and tired. Sure glad that job is done, some of the guys here seem to like ripping engines out, injection pumps, HG jobs, but I didn't enjoy it, I tolerated it! I tried to think how much I saved by not having to take it to the stealer, then I feel a little better!

Glad to hear you feel good about doing it yourself. You cant beat the feeling of doing the job yourself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!and getting it done right.
