Hayden Severe Duty Fan Clutch

When I needed a fan clutch I didn't have the time, or money, to do the experimenting that Heath did to come up with the best over the counter solution. So, I went with his clutch.

It bugs me to spend extra for something IF I know I can get the same for less elsewhere. Since I didn't have the knowledge at the time I don't feel bad, but if I know for future needs then I'm better off for it.

Since this clutch is supposed to engage at the same temps as the 6.5, does any body know what the 6.5 engagement temp is?

Don

How do you guys go about modifying the Hayden clutch ??

The one I just bought, just has a slot in the aluminum hub area that the spring's tang goes into and is epoxied in there. It looks as if a person could go over maybe 1/4" - 3/8" and dremel another slot to put more tension on the spring...

Got a question.....If u put in a more aggressive fan that draws more air it seems to me that the fan clutch would have to be a real strong one to keep from slipping???? Maybe the problem is not when it comes on as much as are the fan and clutch compatible???? What is a cheap easy upgrade for my truck??? Can I use a heavy duty 6,5 fan and clutch???

We'll see, I'm installing the Dmax fan on my '99 clutch tomorrow. Intuitively, it should be compatible as the steel fan undoubtedly flexes less than the composite. I'm not having any cooling
problems. Just want to see if there is an incremental benefit from the Dmax 21"
composite.

I'm noticing a difference in my 93 with the steel and the Hayden 2840. Truck ran consistent 210. now shes running 195 which is what the stat is.

Now change to the D-Max 21" and she'll sit steady with a load on......As quoted by a really smart guy, ("D-Max 21" blade, moves the most air.....Period.")

2840.
Although knowing what I know now, I might have given the 2886 a try. Maybe when I do the CUCV.
Louis,
No need to spend the money. I put the dmax fan on my Burb. My 93 cannot tow anyway so the 9 blade is more than adequate. I think the bigger rad helped more than anything. The one that was in it was way too small which is confirming that the copper rad wasn't any better than the alum but it's not any worse either. I suspect if it had the "right" alum rad the results would be the same.
