Has anyone removed the 4WOL ABS system?

i just pulled the abs fuse in the engine bay. seemed to work just fine.

haha - maybe i'll try that, but i went ahead and pulled the plugs out of the abs controller. I'm going to have to remember that I don't have ABS now - but its nice knowing what kind of response I'm going to get when I apply the brakes. (before I didn't really know...especially if the back end was bouncing)

better yet, get a blown fuse or shot relay and leave it in so it looks like you have had it in operation prior to wreck...'something shorted out post acident officer, honest!"

Disclaimer: This is probably illegal advice and should be ignored.

my only OBS ABS experience that i have is on the 98 and 2000 1 tons. IMHO it works awesome, but when i get my 95 fixed we'll see the difference with diesel.

I also haven't had any problems with my ABS. I've drove vehicles with and without ABS. I honestly prefer ABS over not having it. ABS on my truck has saved me a few times in the past, so it will stay on my truck :sly:.

Mine is terrible, if the street is damp, sometimes I'll step on the brake and
the rear slips a little, activates the ABS and it feels like you have no pedal.
If I do it hard, like a panic stop, it's a little better, but not enough to give
me any confidence.

right there with ya...but went ahead and plugged it in anyways.

I flushed the brake system this weekend, including the hydroboost/PS system. with all fresh juices, I reconnected the ABS electrical plugs, and tested it pretty hard.

Surprize, it worked pretty good! It's raining now, and I'll retest it again on the wet, connected and not. Just don't anybody hyold your breath, I'm not in a hurry. ;)

I am suspicious, and anticipate the need to install a blown fuse (thanx GM Guy), as I don't have high expectations for the ABS.

would the following mess up the abs system?
1) bigger tires/rims/wheel package in general
2) lift kits
3) different braking system other than stock

the reason i ask is that some of you guys have one of the above. The 98 and 2000 one tons i made dad leave stock (he put 235/85 on, and the fuel economy went down, so it wasnt too hard to get him to go back to stock 225/75s)

good point - i have 265/75's on. so I suppose it would. but I don't have a lift kit and I don't have a different braking system (to my knowledge), so I still wouldn't think that when my back end bounces up, my brakes seemingly gets soft.

had stock tires on my 96..long gone, blew up 6.5, still hated it!

I still don't know about the stock rubber. I do know that I went ahead and plugged my ABS back in and with all these slick roads and lightly pressing on my brakes, my front brakes liked to lock up. So...I've unplugged the fuse. This way I at least know that I've got to slam on them to lock them up.

Perhaps someone should find a fix for these problems instead of going around the problem?

My ABS works perfect right now. If I remember right... my brake pedal is slightly harder when the ABS kicks in. I also have 285/75R16 tires (33"), the stock size on my truck were 245/75R16... Like I said before... I'll take a proper working ABS system over a non-ABS vehicle any day :).

Did you plug the fuse back in first part of day and it locked up first few stops? Because if so that just sounds like rust on rotors.......

The front has always seemed to want to lock up if the back was bouncing or sliding at all, ever since I bought it about 10k miles ago. (I enjoy taking back roads - so I'm familiar with the back end bouncing a little bit). But when it locks up, it doesn't seem like it wants to release. After unplugging and replugging the harnesses into the ABS controller (did both with truck off), I decided to just unplug a fuse, and I've been fine since. I always have pedal pressure, and I don't have my front end locking up at 12-15 mph when I'm simply trying to slow down.
