Has anyone read the new Diesel Power article?

I was wondering how acurate the article is on Heaths 6.5L? I believe Heath is the guy to make great things happen for the 6.5L community, but is his race motor seriously putting out 500 hp? I am sure the LSR's engine is hot, but I couldnt imagine that hot.

the only references to 500 hp are a little "badge" on the LSR pic on pg 142, and the article title in the index and the cover, no where in the article. I am wondering if this is hype by the writers at DP.

If he revs it 5000rpm then it becomes much easier to make Horsepower, even when there may be no torque there. I still doubt its 500hp that you could see on a dyno.

I can go over 120mph on a stock engine with GM4, so I must have 400hp!

It does not have to live very long and is said to be a 6.2 block when I asked them about engines they built. They said they bent a bunch of rods from the CDR sucking oil on one of their runs.

So keep that in mind - High power and short life. What we expect for the street or towing for extended time has to be stronger and heaver for that kind of power. Aka a different engine like a Duramax without precups and lower compression. Then good luck getting the transmission to hold it!

Displacement boats have a limiting hull speed where, if I recall correctly, a 10 percent increase in performance requires a 100 percent increase in power. There's a point where no amount of horsepower will make this platform faster.

A truck isn't where I'd start for a salt flats vehicle. The guy is proving a point about possibilities - not what you'd do to your daily driver. Why call him a liar?

I don't think anyone calling him a liar, I just think people are curious to how he came up with 500HP. Dyno or math?

if he really is making that power i dont see why he shouldnt try to sell the parts and know how. its not like the 6.5 land speed record is very competitive

Again, it's either true or it's not.

I credit this guy for keeping my truck on the road with his PMD mod. I trust him and think people should call him and talk to him - something that people on this site have reported he's quite amenable to - before they publicly presume and state he's not being truthful.

There's enough lying going on in this world to address before we vilify people that are benefiting our community.

Perhaps you guys should pick up the phone.....Bill is always happy to talk about his rig...

FWIW - I believe him....

So DP said 500 HP or Bill did? I do see how the doubts come to be, most have trouble reaching 1/2 of that :) Good Idea Chris.

GM GUY, give him a call and add the info into the post.

Yeah, because this makes a lot of sense.

The guy's trying to make a living and hasn't yet been proven to be making false statements or selling snake oil. Why is it necessary to say anything that attacks his reputation and threatens his livelihood?

Maybe I'm a little sensitive to this in that my contract job is converting to GS in Oct and we're out of a job but this infuriates me.

Prove he's full of crap or leave him alone.

Settle down dude, there are doubts, you ever heard of the Show Me State or sarcasm

I posted my data, 130mph in 2 miles, maybe I have 400hp. What your stats

After reading this thread, I feel my statement is being taken out of context.

The only accusations I am putting forth is that The Diesel Power magazine may be stretching the truth about Bill's powerplant without Bill Heath's own approval or knowledge.

I thought that Bill had an account here, or one of his higher level employees did, and this thread was started with hopes that one of those folks would come forth and straighten out the Diesel power article.

I am just curious if Diesel Power is stretching the truth, I would never accuse Bill Heath of stretching the truth. For what it is worth, I fully believe in his products and knowledge, and would never doubt him or his company. If he said he is making 500 hp out of a 6.2/6.5L, I would not doubt him for one second.

I am swamped with college finals, so my time for phone calls is limited, so I would appreciate a member from here that is in contact with Bill to give him a call. Plus, if I had time, i am still a little intimidated by making contact with the god of the 6.5L world! :)

PS: Dan Hunter, I would like to apologize if I have offended you.

Until you move to Missouri, I'm not interested in your excuse.

Sarcasm...where's the funny part?

Settle down? I'm fine; you're the one that's comfortable attacking a guy's reputation. Only on the internet could you get away with such statements. Go to his garage and state your opinions and see how you make out.

I don't know how your data is relevant to the discussion that questions a guy's integrity and, yes, you're accusing him of lying. Either he's despicable or you are. I'm willing to wait on the results but it better be factual.

I was born is St Louis MO, Im a doubter from birth! So you can shove it

Some people said you can double CFM at the same pressure, are they liars too, or just optimistically uninformed?????

If you understood what I was talking about you would understand why mile times and speeds are relevant.

I, myself as well as others, know where his engine came from, Diesel Depot. Built to his specifications. I know how much one of those engines cost! I believe he wrote about in a post here quite a while back. The twin turbos work really well. And with enough money I'm sure anyone could build the same thing and make a lot of horsepower. But that is a lot of money!! In other words 'money will buy horsepower'!

So you do have an excuse...you're from MO. It may be something from birth. Good to know.

Some people said you can double CFM at the same pressure, are they liars too, or just optimistically uninformed?????

Is that what Heath said? That's how he got his HP? Or are you just angry because your caustic opinion is illustrated to be worthless?

If you understood what I was talking about you would understand why mile times and speeds are relevant.

I'm certain few people know what you're talking about. To be clear, Heath built a vehicle for record not regular driving. To compare it to your daily driver shows how confused you are. It's time for you to relax and consider your hostility to a man's business and livelihood solely to support your ego and confusion.

Good night, Buddy. Hope you wake up in a less confrontational mood.
