has anyone changed from auto to 5 spd.

I wish.

My k2500 (8600 lb) ECLB with 4:10's and 4l80e averages 13 mpg empty...

Same here. Hoping the latest Heath EPROM will change that, though. It seems to be pretty lean, judging by the new low EGTs.

I plan to do this swap with a donor truck. I've not looked hard for over a year, though, since we've had two additional kids in the house, though. I'm hoping it will be a project for next winter, though.

snowdrift, check out my thread on the sick 94 ECLB. will that do you any good on the swap, or does it still need to be a 1995? (or do you need another truck! :) ) dont worry, I am still keeping an eye out, but it has been a dry spell for a time.

Sorry to go OT guys.

But to add knowledge, yes it has been done, I have seen a factory like install and I have seen some pretty bad hack jobs.

I tend to just try and find trucks that started life as a MT, easier for me, and can still get all the parts via vin. but If i had a parts truck laying around, I would definitely do it. but remember, manuals do save a little bit on fuel, but it sounds like you are searching for a twin od type of change. I wish they made two speed rears for these low for hooking up to the trailer, and initial launch, then click it into high for fuel economy. Who knows, that may exist as well, but I have a feeling it probably is not in my budget!

I have found what I'm looking for and am keeping my fingers crossed on it. Another feller is supposed to go look at it on Sunday and if he doesn't buy it, I told the owner that he can consider it sold because I want it. I was the second guy to contact him, so I'm in line for it. It's a fair price and would be a direct swap-out for me - same year, model, chassis. If or when I do this swap, I'll post photos of the project along the way, as well. If the other guy buys it, then I'm on the hunt again...
