hard start

The batteries are two years old and since it is my understanding you should never change out just one battery I am thinking I will wait till it starts to give me trouble again and then change out both batteries and all the cables. (Assuming the batteries test bad which I am almost positive one will given how I can see a difference in the lights depending on which one is hooked up) Thanks so much for the ideas and pointers.

On the 2 batteries, it is always better to have two new ones at same time. But if you have a good old one and a junky old one...consider replacing the junker with a $30 used one from battery recon shop or junk yard. Just bring your load tester.

The problem is the lower one will drain the better one and shorten its life. So wrecking a new battery isn't worth the cash, but 30-40 bucks is worth the time you buy. There are some battery shops or mechanic shops that sell new and used batteries, that will do "trade ins"

When you eventually buy batteries, Have them load tested before you buy. Last time I shopped, we load tested 4 or 5 and I left with 2.

I'd test the batteries now. If by chance your batteries are both good, you could just get by with new cables.
