Hard start all of a sudden

Dont forget:
Go to quick care for the 15 stitches and tetnis shot in forearm from edge of rusty heat shield...

Find ratchet from throwing it across the yard when snapping glow plug swollen tip off...

Or the section on explaining to your neighbors that no, you are not really a raving lunatic swearing at the top of your lungs, but instead have just broken off a swollen glow plug inside your head. Your vehicle's, not your noggin.

Hate to piss on your parade boys, but all glows came right out with no issues.

'Course it helps that they were only a year and a half old and I had put anti-seize on'em, but still... cakewalk.

I 'bout got this issue licked, I'll report back when it's totally resolved.

And I know it's Halloween, so I have a gremlin story that I really think will stump the best of you. I hope not, I'd really like to hear that one of you long-time wrenchers have seen or heard of it before but so far, every car guy I've ran it by is totally at a loss. I'll start a new thread on it soon. I'll call it "Gremlin Stumper".

Just confirming that the Walbro FRB5 will stop pumping when there is no demand. So engine off = no pumping while jumped. Engine on it pumps again.

So, final solution was that 7 of 8 glows were shot. I ordered 8 more (Duraterms) and funny thing is, they are totally different from the first time I ordered them. I'm wondering if the company that I bought them from the first time didn't jerk me and send a different type? The new box actually says Duraterm on it and the plug is labeled Bosch.

Bosch on the right.

Started up perfectly today.

Now I just need to find the time to get to that #6 plug! : )>

I agree, I did like the duraterms. However my tune with extended glow timing really woke them up for easier cold starts.
Yeah, I have the Peninsular Diesel glow controller and really like the extra glow time.

My understanding is that the Optimizers have a lower compression than the GM motors and then I put in .010 head gaskets to lower it even more. I don't know what it would measure out too, but having the extra glow has made starting no issue (when I haven't broken something).

I dont thnk I have ever had a bosch plug that wasnt labeled bosch.

I had NAPA do some checking with their Bosch rep and came up with some numbers from that other plug. I'll try to dig em up and let you know what I found.

The plug on the Left is not a Duraterm. I thought it was at first glance an OEM AC Delco "9G" or similar clone. The rusty texture of the plug itself may be from too much timing aka glow plug erosion. Hopefully someone can comment if your picture is normal or in fact erosion. Keyword is "texture" not color that I refer to.
