Got the burb, Got issues with it.

Hit the Junkyard today in RI. Lot's of older stuff. I got a nice front power seat as well as the missing middle seat. I have a grill and composite headlights and am going to get a set of injectors tomorrow from a local re builder tomorrow.

As far as the Tech 2, it can do a cylinder kill one at a time. I've done it personally with the Tech 2's at my college. Not sure how it works, but once you choose a cylinder that cylinder certainly goes dead to the world as my pickups nice smooth idle went to an idle with a dead miss and an engine shake until i turned that cylinder back "on" again.

There was a Tech 2 on eBay updated to only '02 going for about 600$. I was drooling...Then it jumped to over 1k$. So Carcode it is.

Well I went knee deep in it today. I yanked the pass wheel well and turbo and got 4 of the injs done. One thing I am not happy about is I noticed that of the 8 injs the guy gave me a few of them were Delphi and the rest were Bosch. Any issue with mixed brands ? He is supposed to be a reputable builder and says he does not use Chinese or India parts. Cleaned the grounds while I was in there. Didn't do the glows as I did not order any in time and no one has Bosch locally and i don't like the 60gs or wellmans. Truck has been starting fine and they are not that bad to do later if need be. Cleaned the PIA ground wires on the frame. Actually the pass side Injs are easier to do once the Turbo is off. One thing that sure is nice about this truck is it's not a rusty POS. Every thing came apart as it should and was re-assembled with antisieze.

For the cheap price of carcode, and the amount you actually use it, can't beat it IMO.

The secret to keeping it fast is to turn off all the reads that it CAN do, when you don't need it to do it. That way its only updating the feeds that you are currently monitoring, instead of over 100 that you aren't reading. Or perhaps a faster laptop will help too.

Absolutely can turn off each cylinder.

It is kind of interesting how it can command this. It must not close the pressure building part in the IP so when that cylinder is filled, it never closes to build pressure to pop the injector open? Not sure. It can't modify the engine internal, nor the injector, so the only thing it has access to is the PMD signal to the IP, which controlls the pulse of fuel, so maybe it doesn't allow any fuel for that cylinder on command? I don't remember if it smokes any more with cylinder commanded dead or not. Don't think so.

I'm happy with it.

I have 3 Delphi and 5 Bosch Injectors Kenny for about 25,000 miles now. Long story how it came to be, but it is what it is. Since they are mechanical units sets completely individual of each other, I can't see how it makes a difference.

Thanks. BTW you got a deal. Carcode cost me 300$ shipped but that is the updated version with the Trican cable. GMTDScan can also do cyl kill.

Only because a member here tipped me off on the Ebay deal going on. It was a score. I still never tried hooking it up to any other vehicle, But i think you're going to be happy with it Kenny. It isn't as bad as everyone says about user difficulties. Its just the setting the TDCO which is a tad tricky. The rest of the features are pretty straight forward and very useful. Once the newness factor is gone, you don't even use it unless your diagnosing something. Its great for testing IAT's and stuff like that.. Be good for you to see if your IAT's are sky-high when your EGT's are climbing fast, to see if the Turbo is creating the heat, or if the added fuel is creating the heat on your Dually. I think you'll like it.

well, just did the nozzles and man does the truck run sweet now. Just replaced the a/c compressor and cycling switch. Cyling switch was both bad and leaking and compressor was leaking around the body which after trying to install a new one I see why. The new one did not sit square with the mounts so I used a chevy starter shim to make nicely nice. I could have ground the compressor down a bit but I didn't want any warranty issues. Chevy starter shims actually work quite nicely although this is the first one of these I ever saw where the compressor didn't sit flush. Now onto the wiring nightmare...Ughhh. there must be 20lbs of useless wiring in this truck. I hope to have plates on it next weekend. I can't believe how clean it is underneath. Truck is a 98 and NO RUST. Nothing. Even though this one is a W/T edition without all the comforts it is so clean I don't care. It's got A/C and I will add cruise. The rubber mats are actually better with the 5 yr old and Great Dane.

Well I spent 4 hrs removing unwanted wiring. What a mess. The truck was nasty inside as well. I cleaned it up and dropped some new(to me) seats from the Junky. It's looking up.

No Joke. It was ex FD. I pulled 10 lbs of wire out of it. All for lights radios inverters etc etc. I had to pull the seats and mat to get the stuff out. I wanted it gone so future gremlins could be more easily chased plus the fleet gar cut everything removing the stuff so I wasn't sure what was live and not.

Wow, that's a lot of copper there. Glad to here she is cleaning up nice.

Re cylinder kill, I emailed the tech back in regards to it being in Tech2, and he responded that they have the latest version 2011 Tech2 and that cylinder kill is not in there for my year of vehicle. Whatever, I believe those that posted here but am now somewhat married to AE. To be honest I have had no real serious issues so far with AE and have found it simple to use and visually nice, also never really got that Indian feeling from the techs. This cylinder kill is the first issue that I have had with tech support and to be honest I have not had the need for it yet anyways. As for the future my ear is pretty well trained so that will be good enough for me.

cheers
Nobby

Wow. I owe you one. I was ready to buy it until you chimed in. BTW The Stafford Swap meet is coming up oct 17. I will be selling some of my crap. If you want to come up you can have that grill. I posted a pic in my album.

WTF?? Is that a joke with the wiring???

Truck looks clean with that new seat!!! Looking nice!

I love the rubber floor.

There is a junkyard not far from you that let's you take your own stuff off and has alot of old trucks like ours. North Smithfiled Auto Wreckers in RI. They were really cool.

Problem is I can't go into RI without hitting the 'anything goes' strip clubs they have... :( Ends up being expensive. Gotta pay to play....

well It's been a rough few weeks but finally trying to get back on track and pulled the burb in the garage tonight and sprayed it before the weather gets too too cold. Didn't come out bad for a quicky. The paint laid out nice. My bondo job left a little to be desired. I never could do plastic but truck looks 100x better.
