Got parts back from powder coaters

I actually did powder coat a 2.0L Mitsu turbo engine block several years back. Obviously a much lighter & smaller block. Had to weld a little reinforcing gusseting on an oven rack to support it. Also wasn't an ideal cure time as it takes a lot of heat input to get that much base metal up to 400 F.

Coating stuff gets addictive because it stays looking great so long.

When they did the trans case on the 4x4 and the rear axle in the Chevelle they put them in the oven for 20-30 minutes brought it back out and coated the parts then back into the oven.
That was to get the metal hot all the way through.
This guys oven can fit a car inside, I know cause mine was!

Thanks again. I also love the color. Its hard to discribe how cool these came out.
I am having IP line fitment issues now. I will take more pics as I go along.
 
Its going in the 93. Once I get it up and running good I'm going to tear into the 96 and put a Cummins 6bt in it. Then when I get the 96 running the 93 will be for sale.

Its going in this truck.

Wait....Wait.... you are an exclusive seller of 6.5 parts, and you are ditching yours for a lousy little Chummins? TRAITOR!:eek::D

Yeah I know. I had to think about that one real hard, BUT i will still have a 6.5 truck also. Its still not a done deal anyway at this point, but I am leaning towards it.
 
Leroy, do you have any idea of what kind of powder they used ? especially for the valve covers ?
Polyurethane, epoxy, TGIC polyester ?

I have a powdercoating gun on a shelf (with the FRB-5 :p ), and I think it should be good idea to start powdercoating engine parts :D

Did you put the stickers after the job done on the valve covers, or are they themselves caught under a layer of transparent powder coat ?
 
Not sure what kind of powder.

Sticker was put on after powder coat. The heat would have distroyed it.
 
I've powder coated & ceramic thermal barrier coated many engine & chassis parts over the last 10 years. You'll like the appearance, but the chip resistance & long-term durability is even more impressive.

Most powders will need the base metal/material to reach 375-420 degrees F for ~ 15 minutes. Cure time can vary with the powder you choose & how quickly the base metal gets up to cure temp.
