Got my Diamond Eye exhaust today...

I have the 4" Diamond Eye on my '99 Burb. I'm going to need to install the gutted soot trap with 4" soot trap. However, looking underneath it does not seem that there's enough room in front of the muffler and definitely not behind it. Should I size it to replace the muffler for inspections?

I can tell you becareful how you gut the cat. I seriuosly am beginning to believe that is why I had high egt problems.

well, all I can tell you about your recent cat "finger pointing" is that my 98 wasn't that bad with the cat and now that the 4" is on it's only marginally better for egt's.

Better, but only a small bit. As in around 100f lower on the top at best.

That's on a stock tune with the vacuum wastegate....

I think the reason for that would be it's measured pre turbo. The exhaust only flows better after it has left the turbo.

If you haven't done the cooling upgrades: heath modded water pump, dmax fan, etc, but you've chipped and added a turbomaster, then you're asking for problems. A gutted soot trap would have marginal if any impact.

Both trucks had all the cooling upgrades.

My point is not the cat itself but the way it was gutted. The ex shop on both trucks cut 4 inch INTO the cat I'd say a few inches anyway. I suspect it was causing a turbulent/backpressure event.

Not that it matters, but I do love the sound of a turbo. I hear mine now almost all the time. Its a GM3. It go's from a whistle to a droning sound almost matching the exhaust harmonics.

Mines a gm8 but I still have the silencer on it.

That's probably the difference, but I have no intentions of removing the silencer either......

My 93 has a 3in DP, 4 Foot of 3in pipe, a 3-4in adapter and a 4in 45* turn down. This dumps right where the factory muffler was. Yeah.... ITS LOUD! I will be getting a 4in Diamond eye soon but for now this is fun, lol!
