Well my Diamond eye exhaust came today from Leroy(PMDcable.com).
First let me vent but before i do this has nothing to do with Leroy. it would not matter who you buy it from whether it be leroy or some other vendor, the stuff gets drop shipped from the manufacturer...OK That said I want to take a UPS package handler, beat him to a bloody pulp and then dump him on the CEO of UPS' front door and say "How does it feel asshole ?"
The friggin box came completely destroyed and open. Miraculously nothing was damged and the parts were all there.(see pics). Unreal...
Ok rant over a now onto the product. You guys know I don't hold back and suffer from wielding a my sense of honesty like a blunt instrument so when I say the pipe was good quality you know I mean it and it was. For the price it was very good and fit overall pretty good for an out of the box system. I had to screw with it a little and the hangers they give you don't line up worth spit save for the rear one so expect to mess with them a little. I will probably redo them with cut offs from the factory system. I used a few band clamps rather than the supplied ubolt clamps so if I need to remove the system for any reason it should come apart nicely. Now every application is different but to save someone else a few minutes of head scratching put the back side of the downpipe up above the crossmember for the torsion bars first , then snake it to the manifold. You can do the downpipe without removing the inner wheel well by just removing the Air cleaner but it was a PIA. I may remove the wheel well next time I do one. The downpipe fit with no issue which really pisses me off with why GM felt it nessicary to squash the factory one. Although you are only supposed to cut the straight piece of pipe they give you, I had to cut the tail pipe an inch shorter where it goes into the muffler. I could not move the muffler anymore forward because it would not line up with the factory hanger then. No biggie. Again, it's an out of the box system, expect to do some tweaking. Really my only complaints were the directions suck . I mean it's pretty self explanatory but it would have save some time if I knew which hanger went where but I figured it out. The short one with the twist to it goes to the back. That one fit good, the others not so good but an easy fix. Bottom line I got a kick ass 4 inch system for 300$. How the hell can you beat that ??
:D

Now....The factory system...WTF ???:???::???::???:
I mean we all know the downpipes suck but I have never seen a soot trap like this truck has. Look how squashed the pipe is and then they put a heat shield on it ?? WHY ?? It's not near anything ?? GM Morons.... I don't get it.

On a side note the muffler is actually kinda quiet compared to the one on my dually. it's nice.

Thanks to Leroy for the fast order as well. It took me about 2.5 hrs to do but alot of that was saving the old system. 13 yrs old and it looks like the day it was put on so I took it off without cutting it. It's really ashame. GM used such good pipe but it was the wrong size...:agreed:

That was good you got all the peices. I love the way mine sounds. Like you said it is quiter than other systems I've done to.
If you go with the muffler delete kit I'm sure It will be loud enough for most.
I also noticed the GM3 turbo could be heard and that was with a 94 flat filter. I just put a K47 with Ashtons Nano fiber on. Excited to see/hear the difference with it.

I'm not shure why some people have trouble with the hangers. :???::???: Other than the front hanger which is not needed[only there to hold the heavy soot trap/cat up]mine practically put itself on it was so easy. The hanger by the rear of the muffler goes tight to the muffler. I didn't have to cut anything with regular cab long box trucks.

Maybe the burb is laid out a little different. Like I said no big deal. I can fix the hangers easily. Just ran out of daylight. Can't beat the price and quality at all. Can't even buy a stock system for that.
Like I said, The install even with screwing with the hangers only took a little over an hour. The rest of the time was taking apart my stock system. Would you believe the factory muffler clamps came off without breaking ?
Anybody running a stock exhuast , this should be mandatory. The factory system really is unbelievably stupid.

Yeah and the box it's packed in is pretty beefy which means UPS went out of their way to destroy it. They actually broke the staples holding it shut. That takes effort. Reminds me of the beginning of Ace Ventura Pet Detective....
Gonna play with the hangers today. Have an idea on how I'm going to get them on a better angle. They do work the way they are bu I want them straighter.

BTW My rage against UPS is not limited to this. I bought a Mixing Board last week of eBay and ups damaged it so badly I am now out 600$ so this was just icing on the cake although atleast this time the purchase was ok. You think the jerkoffs would have atleast taped the box back shut and not just dump it in my driveway with the pieces falling out.

Yeah the sound is nice. It's got a rumble to it but not offensive like my Dually. ON long trips the Dually gets annoying. I am very anxiuos to see if the MPG's improve at all and also see how the temps are towing. There has always been a thought in my previous trucks like my Dually and Tahoe that the hollowed out cat was causing turbulence. Well, no kitty this time at all so we shall see. Not sure what's gonna happen next year when I go for emissions. That is why I put the system on with band clamps and labored to keep the factory system usable.

BTW, wanted to add, there is nothing wrong with the clamps they give you and they are all included. I chose to use Band clamps for ease of future removal in case of emissions testing issues.

I am glad it worked out for you Kenny. Is the pipe 409 Stainless?

Alluminized pipe with satin stainless muffler. Not sure what grade stainless.

I did not have any problems at all with the hangers on my Suburban except for the very front one, but like Barry said its probably not needed anyway.

X2

My only disappointment with the system over running my truck for a few months with just the down pipe off the turbo is that... I CAN'T HEAR MY TURBO ANYMORE!!! :nonod: LOL

No sure one the PIpe. How would I tell ?
Here's some pics of the "re-worked hanger" . Looks much better now.
It actually made the front one line up better. Looks sweet now and the hoop in the tail pipe was hitting the frame before. Now it fits perfect. I wonder if the hanger was put together backwards. I'll see if I can find the parts list. It had pics...

I just went out and crawled under my pickup to refresh my memory. I have a similar situation on the hanger next to the muffler as in your last pic. I also think that one was the hanger that was too long and I rebent it to make it shorter and lift the pipe up to the correct heighth. I like your solution and may do the same to mine.

Don

I had trouble with the hangers on my 'Burb. Downpipe was also a biatch to get in and I've done them before.

My down pipe went in just fine also a Burban. The burbans have less clearance because of the a/c lines running to the rear.
Even so it went in just fine. All my hangers fit nicely and we probably really don't need the very front hanger anyway, so if you left that off this system should take maybe an 1-1.5 hours with hand tools and a sawzall.

This truck is the first 6.5TD I have owned that did not overheat when towing heavy and I strongly suspect the exhaust system had alot to do with it. I'm glad I bought this system. Also after a good 400 miles trip the muffler flattened out a bit and the tone got a little louder but still sounds good.

I got a plain jane...No rear a/c. Maybe that's why it fit good.

Factory clamps are the ONLY thing on my system that is rusted.

I painted it flat black Grille Paint BBQ before install...

Looks brand new, except for EACH rusted clamp, which I did paint too.

I'd recommend SS band clamps for this install like Kenny did. They can be removed, once the other clamps are tight, they crimp the pipe and it wont come out without a sawzall.
