Well, it's been awhile :rof:
Time for a Poll. Just picked up a 93 K3500 4x4. The motor has issues, the electrical system has issues the batts are bad, the starter fried and that is just the stuff I know about not to mention the truck is a rolling abortion. Should I fix 'er up or cut her up ? I'm gonna try to get it running so I can see better what is wrong with the motor but I suspect HG or cracked head. I do have a spare head.
It has the coveted NV4500, DB2-4911 and a 6 inch lift that would look nice in my Burb...:D

I'd dig around with it a bit first and see what it really needs, but it sounds like a good parts truck or a future project.

Body looks fairly decent from what little is visible in the pics.

Are the cab mounts rotted or is the bed just sitting weird?

if the body is good, considering your electronics luck, you got an IFS equipped CUCV in my opinion. dead reliable. throw an ATT on it, better filter, turn up the wick, and call it good.

Well, that's just it, I don't need another CUCV and this truck could never be half the truck my CUCV is. The bidy is very clean on it. The truck was sitting crooked due to the tires being partially flat and unmatched.

Or, fix the few things wrong on it and try to turn a profit.....

That's where I would start.... Dig into the issues and see what's really wrong with it. You may get lucky, be able to fix it fairly cheap, then sell a good running lifted 4x4.

If it turns out to be major problems, where you wouldn't make any money by fixing and selling the truck.... Then use the parts you need off the 93 to make your burb a 5 speed, you don't see one of those everyday. :D

:rof:
My wife asked me if I took anything away from that movie like be grateful for what we have...I said yes, I took away to build a CUCV and buy ammo, lots of ammo:rof:
The truck according to PO was blowing antifeeze out of the coolant bottle. Intial inspection today showed that the rad was full and no oil in antifreeze or antifreeze in the oil so that is a good thing. I was gonna put a pressure tester on it zand see if it had loss but being that I can't crank the engine until I fix the wiring/starter and don't want to possibly force coolant into the cyls until I have a means of expelling it.

If you have a tester kit, test the rad cap.

I've seen more than one loose it's psi rating and boil over....just a thought....

I was thinking maybe air pockets in the coolant since he filled the rad after the motor swap. Probably didn't let it idle with the cap off. he said it was smoking and missing but the smoke smelled like fuel. I'm thinking crap got in the injs. It was not ideal working conditions.

put the CUCV in a hell-breaks-loose prepared bunker, and make the 93 your daily driver? the burb looks awesome as is, I wouldn't lift it.

basically, I REALLY like the truck, and think you would too. it just seems to be very functional, and very simple. everyone needs a RCLB truck anyways!

I wouldnt blame you for fixing it and selling it, from the way you folks in that area talk, a clean truck from 1993 is hard to come by.

A clean anything that's seen more than 3 or 4 full winters here is hard to come by. I've seen early 2000s GM trucks with no rockers. They just totally disintegrated. The salt up here is a real killer to anything that touches the roadways.

If the PO doesn't have much experience with these I would try and get it running. It could just be bad inj's and an air pocket in the cooling system like you mentioned.

Issues? What electrical system???
This has got to be as dead simple as the CUCV. In fact simpler w/o the 24v.

So replace injectors, replace engine, and hope the IP on the take out engine is good. If not rebuild it. Then you will have a nice simple truck with no complicated electronics to go weird.

Starters and batts are like changing the oil. :rolleyes5:

Oh I have no doubt I can fix what ever is wrong with it but I already have an RC and don't really need another. I'm wondering what MPG a NA 6. would get with a 5 spd...:D

The lift and big tires would hurt the mpg and power big time. Dependent on the gearing also.
