if anybody has ever raced a 6.5 they are kind of slugish down the 1/4 well im going to change that. im planning on building up my 6.5 to go fast. i know it will take some doing but i think i have a good start seeing as im already a 1000 lbs lighter then al the other trucks. ive been told im stupid for trying to do this but i have made up my mind when i get another truck(dually to be tow rig) im pulling the motor. it will be a great day for the 6.5 to go fast and woop up on some dodges and defently fords.

Hope you have real deep pockets that are full of 100 dollar bills!

It's been tried by others, and a stock 5.9L could run with a built to the hilt 6.5 running 30+ pounds of boost and MASSIVE amounts of fuel. The IDI engine just isn't going to do well trying to push high HP. For what you will spend trying to go fast with a 6.5, you could by a newer truck and be as fast or faster without having to build it.

I have to completely disagree here. I have nothing but support for this project. I'm sure a newer truck could still outrun a 6.5L, but I feel the point of this is to stick with a 6.5L and make it awesome. 5.9L are over-rated. I have spanked a few of em so far.

ether way i go i still think it would be a good project and would defently turn heads at the track. you wouldnt beleve how many people come up and ask if it still has the 6.5 in it

What's that old saying? Oh yeah, "A fool and his money are soon parted".

Not wanting to rain on your parade, but just the modifications to get the block to hold up to the 600HP minimum that you would need to compete with either a 4th Gen 5.9 Cummins or a 6.4/6.7 Powerstroke, that has had nothing more than a good tune downloaded and aftermarket intake and exhaust added to it, is going to set you back $10K. Then the injector modifications needed to flow enough fuel to support that HP, or the fact that the DB/DS series IP basically is not capable of that kind of fuel delivery are a whole 'nother thing.

Talk to the turbonator bros. they are currently working on a compound turboed 6.5 but they have this motor going in a web 2 wheel drive truck.

Still got my support. Don't let these people bring you down. It may take money, but trying to accomplish projects like this often is what brings about invention and new creative ideas that could possibly benefit us all.

X2 with 6.5L. All of the posters have good points though. The limits of this idi engine are real.

I think the biggest limitation is fueling and turbocharger. Finding maybe a aftermarket pump on another application that works and probably going to a centermount turbo would be the best option in my opinion. It will take money and fabbing but it can be done.

Please get yourself a GoPro camera. We want footage of it's death in all its glorious detail.:treed::Justwait2::bow:

I am all for this. I know that there are easier engines to get the power out of but the 6.5 has potential. Has anyone tried main bearing studs with the stock crank? I have just finished school as a diesel tech and one thing that I remember about breaking mains and crankshafts is due to flex. so if the flex on the low end is from the mains not staying put try studs? this might solve the main web cracking and the crank. then for the heads the biggest problem is the turbo. the amount of psi to drive the stock turbo is just to much. with a better turbo and some help on the bottom end I think you could run up with the Cummings. also the 6.5 is lighter than the Cummings. I could be wrong but I think you can get a 6.5 to run with the others. and not for loads of cash. PS bill is still using a DS4 pump on his truck. Fueling does not seem to be a issue.

well i know that kennedy diesel makes splayed mains for. and yes i would have to build up the lower end but when you start going for proformance you normaly have to start building up the whole thing or it will have a view port in the side

"Slim Shady" mentioned that 120mm3 of fuel is possible with the DS4 with tuning. PM him for info.

Dude, go for it. Eff all the nay-sayers. It'll be a sweet project. What some of these guys don't understand is that it's not as much of the finished product (projects like this never are!!!) it's all about the process of getting to each stage. The blood, sweat, tears, joy and excitement are what make projects fun!!!!! Do it, and enjoy it. You have my full support!
