Going to buy a new alternator tomorrow...?

No I did not, the alt light came on a few times on the way home...

Stopped at AZ today & had them check the alt failed. The belt is not squealing...I was gonna swap to the green belt with the new alt.

Easy enough to swap it before hand...I'll try that before I drop $120 clams on the alt... Thx!

I would probably get a custom one rebuilt for higher output at idle and in general. It needs a 6 groove 21mm wide, 62mm OD pulley. If there is a local place that does that, and can get you more output I think the stock alternators are a sore point in the engine bay.

The newer CS144 will work well, but they dont use the right housing with one 2" foot on the bottom and one ear at like 120* up. It has two 2" feet at the right clocking though and the connector is the same as the CS130 we had stock. So you would need to fabricate a new little piece that would ideally come down like a claw over the front and back of the foot and connect to the same place as stock, which is the tensioner pulley bolt.

alternatorparts.com sells CD130I alternators, high output, 140amp, for a little bit more than OEM.

The CS130D is supposed to be better than the 130 model we have, but their 130I model stands for Iceberg where they fixed the problems. So it would be totally stock fit if you got the CS130I, but it would need these housing pieces for the right mount, which is included in the whole alternator price, just want to get the right config.

I wanted a local rebuilder to rebuild it better and said really can't. So I had him rebuild it for backup, and running Autozone Lifetime for Almost 2 years, including a plowing season which works an alernator like no tomorrow. So I have a backup on hand in case Autozone's aren't open, and a lifetime autozone made in mexico alternator.

My truck is almost completely made from short, dark/olive skinned workers with squinty eyes. Good Ol' American Iron! I think the only thing American in my truck is Me.:usa1:

What Buddy said. I ordered a 170 amp for my '99 and there's no looking back. Just a
make sure you call in yor order, specify the larger diesel pulley and to be safe, keep your old one. It's nice to always see 14.1 on the volt meter. The extra money is well worth it.

Hey Big T, did you get the CS144 and adapt the bracket to yours? Was that in the 95 or 99, I looked for your thread on that but couldnt find it.

I did get what you recommended, but I did not have to do any mods. The body is much bigger, but looks the same as the stock. It was a straight bolt in fit. $210 or so, but worh every cent.

96-99 does not need any mod for CS144.

94-95 needs some mod for CS144 for the back bracket. CS144 is a lot thicker. Thefermenator did his before he swapped the D-max to 95 Burb.

Who'd you order it from....and if it's the cs144, why is it a direct bolt in?

I went with Duralast once. After the 3rd one went bad I bought an AC Delco and returned the Autozone.

I've never had any luck with electrical parts from Autozone unless they were Delco's

& I know several people with similar experiences.

To me the lifetime warranty sucks if you have to collect on it 5 times before you get a good part.

Friend of mine had to call headquarters cuz they were telling him he had another problem with his Jeep and didn't want to give him another alternator.

They kind of mentioned it to me also. I said well it seems to be working fine now. Give me my money back.
