Fuel Gauge issues.

That is common wth the typewriter tick. It comes and goes mysteriously. I really haven't heard it in my truck in a few years. I run Mobil 1 5W-40 Synthetic.
You should be getting much more than 13 to 14 mpg under Nirmal use. I get between 18.75 and 20 mpg in the summer months under normal use. I run a Hypertech 3 tune.

I am babying the bullydog tune on its higher setting and get 13.1 according to the dash. I will see what happens when I drop the tune back a couple stages but I am shocked its so bad. My old 6.5 got better than that (15 average) and I actually drove the truck using the pedal not the declining grade.

Unfortunately the DIC lies. The only true way to get proper mileage checked is to hand calculate it. Do you have the stock 245's on still?

Did you adjust your tire size with your tuner? Some tuners let you adjust the size tire that you are using. I do not believe that it will affect the odometer at all. I think it may be for the speedometer.
But there is also a calculation that you must use when hand calculating your fuel mileage to give you an accurate reading. Only way that I found to get accurate figure for fuel mileage.

I am pretty sure the bully dog has that feature I will have to look again and see what it says when I plug it in.

So you're saying that if it does have the feature its for the speedo only and not the odometer?

it should do both for diesels, but gas ecms have 2 settings in them. one for speedo, and one for odometer.

285 tires require you to multiply miles x 1.075 divided by gallons = MPG. I've done that since I bought the truck. I have verified the calculation by GPS on many occasions. Never trust the DIC for mileage even when the tires are the right size and you have an aftermarket tune. Ironically, with the Predator tune and having not corrected for tires in the tune setup, mine is fairly accurate when using the above formula.

Thanks Mike. That is what I was trying to say. I run 265's so I had the calculation for that size.
That should get him a more accurate MPG figure.

Thanks for you help guys, and thanks for the number Mike. That makes my numbers sound a little bit better, around 14.5 mph around town, about the same as the ol 6.5. I am sure if I did a lot more highway it would make my mph better. but for right now its only been stop and go traffic around town and speeds are all below 45. Not the ideal environment for the rig I'm sure but that will change. I have a trip up to my family's cabin in bear lake UT for the 24th and will be taking the truck to see what kind of highway mpg I get. there is a decent climb through parley's canyon in salt lake and a couple of canyons between here and the lake with some flats and hills. Should be a decent measure for round trip.

Also be sure to make sure your tires are properly inflated. I run mine at about 60psi for everyday driving, and I run more when I tow. You'll get better mpg's, and your tires will be happy.
