Fuel Additives

I have run Power Service in just about every tank of my '05 when I had it and my '06 that I have now. Made the switch from the white bottle (winter blend w/ antigel) to the grey bottle (summer blend) in April. Not sure if it boost the MPG at all, but like that it up's the cetane and have had not one single problem during the winter while using either for antigel. Winter time or summer time, I use 8oz a fill up (26 gal. tank). I also just started using the TCW-3 two cycle oil this last fill up, so I'll wait at least 1-2 more fill ups before I comment on how that is working for me. I put in about 8oz of the two cycle in this past fill up. An ounce for every 3 gallons or so.

Very informative and interesting. Thanks. I am glad I used cooking oil and now B-20 bio-diesel. I wish I had used larger quantities of cooking oil when I started using it.

Any thoughts on adding Acetone to our diesel tanks ? I have heard this improves mpg ??
If its true, anybody know how much too add ???

OK, so an additive is good. I've just started putting Diesel Kleen into my tank. Is it OK to put this in every tank fill or should I do it at another intervals?

also would anyone recommend something else? I'm not to thrilled about putting 2 cycle oil in the tank but if that will help things I guess I could give it a try.

Your perfect with any commercially sold product. NO 2 cycle oil, Used motor oil and any other BS you hear on the forums. They will eventually cause damage no matter what they say.

These are not mechanical engines anymore so don't listren to the old time trucker.

Diesel clean every fillup is great. There are others on the market but they essentially do the same thing. Stick with a product that is on the shelfs in your area.

I hate to tell you, but you are wrong. 2-cycle oil is fine and, in fact, proven to be a good additive for lubricity. Read the Lubricity Additive Study found here or on other forums. The only additives better than 2-cycle oil were Bio-Diesel and FPPF. Diesel Kleen wasn't even that high on the list as it burns hot and doesn't provide as near as much lubrication as the 2-cycle. The important thing with the 2-cycle is that it must be TCW-3 rated. It is meant to be ignited, burns ashless, clean, and is inexpensive. This is no "old trucker" mentality.
Used motor oil or ATF, on the other hand, will cause problems because it is NOT meant to be ignited, doesn't burn clean, and has many other leftovers that can be contaminants (coolant, water, fuel, metal shavings, etc....) I have read about more injector failures and piston damage from overuse of Diesel Kleen than ANYONE using TCW-3 rated 2-cycle.
Sooooo, this being said, if you have the xtra money with fuel prices, use Amsoil, FPPF, or BioD if you can find it. Other than that, Supertech 2-cycle is a good inexpensive alternative for your truck.

I run Stanadyne Performance Formula in every tank, plus, I run 1/2 & 1/2 of No.2 Diesel and 20% Bio-Diesel since '01. Is it helping fuel mileage, I dunno, but I get about 16.9 to 17 mpg around town and only a bit better on the highway, and I'm still on the original injectors....hope that ain't a jinx.....:blush2: I also run the Racor secondary (pre) fuel filter w/magnets.

I agree that used motor oil is something I would never add to mine truck because that oil does have contaminates in it and good or not, it doesn't sound good. Also, in '01 Stanadyne was the only additive GM recommended as far as warranty issues were concerned so I started using it and still do.

CONCLUSIONS:

Products 1 through 4 were able to improve the unadditized fuel to an HFRR score of 460 or better. This meets the most strict requirements requested by the Engine Manufacturers Association.
Products 1 through 9 were able to improve the unadditized fuel to an HFRR score of 520 or better, meeting the U.S. diesel fuel requirements for maximum wear scar in a commercially available diesel fuel.
Products 16 through 19 were found to cause the fuel/additive blend to perform worse than the baseline fuel. The cause for this is speculative. This is not unprecedented in HFRR testing and can be caused by alcohol or other components in the additives. Further investigation into the possibilities behind these poor results will investigated.
Any additive testing within +/- 20 microns of the baseline fuel could be considered to have no significant change. The repeatability of this test allows for a +/- 20 micron variability to be considered insignificant.

I found this some "place" and wanted to share it.
