OP never answered, you are using a screwdriver to hold the
lever off the adjuster, right?
I've had success using a screwdriver to pry on the drum while
tapping it off with a hammer, alternating sides

If you're converting to discs, torch a hole in the backing plate
(or drum) and pull it off
