I use my Suburban for towing my camper and I want to be able to bring along firewood for a campfire.
My roof rack is not heavy enough for a "Safari rack" so that's not an option.

I've been looking at front mounted receivers.I figure I can use my basket rack and carry plenty of firewood for a couple of days.

Does anyone have a front mounted receiver?? Does it look retarted:rolleyes5:??

Not sure if this is the right place for this if not feel free to move.

I had one on my 98 when I bought it.

It nessesitated the removal of the factory skid plate and air dam, so I pulled it off and installed a skid plate and dam I already had "in stock"...

Look stupid?

Nah, just looked like a truck someone used to pull a camper or a boat. Lots of folks have them here to hook up a boat to the front to ease up and down a launch. Other use it to maneuver a camper into a tight spot. I'm actually considering re-installing it in such a way that I can keep the skid plate and air dam.

Now, cruising down the road with a load of firewood on the front.....dunno, sounds kinda "iffy". If any of it comes loose it goes right under the vehicle or trailer which can cause all sort of expensive and dangerous problems.

You might get away with a "box" mounted in the reciever. That sounds a bit safer to me.

But, it ain't gonna be purtty........:)

I have one on mine (Reese), skid plate is fine but I could see where a Dam would be an issue mine is just beneath the numberplate holder plastic.

I use mine for carrying a generator to jobs when I need it, I shortened the platform so that when folded up it sits inbetween the headlights and does not cover them. I've had no issues carrying with cooling so far and I carried the generator during the summer months.

I also put snow plough blade marker wands on the corners to remind me that it's there when folded down.;)

I can snap a pic tomorrow if you like for looks.

Cheers
Nobby
