i called a guy on craigslist today about a complete 6.5 that he is selling saying that it had a bad oil pump. i had him give me the casting number and the date code and it is a 929 block with a date of june 28 94. i cant remember if a 929 is a decent block to build on?

i asked him about the over all health of the motor and he said that it supposedly has less than 10k on the clock since it was rebuilt but it needs a new oil pump bacouse it was starting to loose pressure. it comes with turbo and IP he said the turbo is aftermarket, also he said that it has a rusimater injection pump :skep: have no idea what that is but that is the way it was spelled in his text. im assumeing that all the manifolds and what not are all there as well

any way he is asking 600 for it i havent seen it yet but i may go thursday to look at it, not sure why i didnt ask this when he told me that it was starting to loose oil pressure but i will find out tomorow how low the OP got.

my plan if i can get it for no more than 500 is to tear it all down toss in a new set of rings, bearings and oil pump (shouldnt need any machine work since it was just rebuilt) and drop it in the dually

what do you fellas think? if all goes right i should had right around 1500 in it and have a fresh motor for less that what i could buy one from TED'S for.

Ted's GEP block and heads are much better than any GM engine can be. A few hundred more gets you a lifetime engine.
If the engine was "just rebuilt " They had to f*** something up badly. Oil pump failure is very uncommon on these. There is a check valve or something that goes in the block above the oil filter. Perhaps it never got put back in or they didn't hook a mechanical gauge to verify the gauge in the dash. May be nothing wrong. I have close to 300,000 on my 95 k2500ld that has a 929 in it.

good point but there is still something that i like about building one. but the idea for this truck is to be a very reliable, family sized (when i have a family), daily transport, and hauling vehicle so maybe a ted engine would be the best bet for it.

The motor I got from Ted's looked like a brand new engine inside and out.. No wear marks or grime anywhere, so therefore NO rebuild necessary. I think I had $2,050 shipped to Mid Michigan from Midland city Alabama. I wouldn't even consider rebuilding a junk GM block. My motor from Ted's is obviously a International "506" casting, I also have a late model GM "506" casting sitting here in my garage, the International block and heads look way better then the other one.

Roosemaster was used on some JD tractors. They look much the same as the Stanadyne pumps. I would guess one is made by the other.

Roosamaster is the type of pump. Stanadyne is one of the manufacturers. Some of the old 5.7D Stanadyne pumps actually said "Roosamaster" on the tags.

From what I gathered, Roosamaster was bought out /merged/changed name with Stanadyne.

My 93 has a 929 but the motor was harvested from a 95. So it's a good block ?

stock it would've been a 599. 929 and 141 are good blocks IMO. I don't like the early 506s however as they are very prone to cracking around the oil squirters. Gm was very late to the game with the oil squirters. IH had them in the 6.9s.

every diesel tractor ive seen from the 1940s through the 1960s were using roosemaster injection pumps. it looks very similar to a DB2.

Both 929 blocks I have had were no good. The engine I got from member chrisk1500 was llitteraly snapped half and the other 929 I got had real long cracks at the mains. I have Been told the 929s are the second choice over the 599. If I were in your shoes I would say F**k it to the gm blocks and get an engine from teds with proven reliability, quality and outstanding customer service.

The latest AMG 506 blocks are far superior to any GM block, even the 599, so that is why if youre starting new best to get that Optimiser if you can afford the extra grand or so.

Although for $600 in that 929 block deal you get a lot more piece parts, intake, IP, turbo, brackets, ect....
