Forged pistons

Has anyone ever had a set of forged pistons made for a 6.2 or 6.5? I'm going to call Ross later today to see if it is something they would do. Just wondering if it's already been done by someone else.
 
I called Ross and they will indeed make a one-off set of pistons (forged, anodized, and he might have said coated- my hearing is not fantastic).
NOT cheap, but I've had pistons custom made for tractors before and I knew it wouldn't be.
 
Didn't think to ask. I have some different ideas for building an engine, and I'm just starting to test my theories. One thing I don't want to deal with again is cracked pistons (or a cracked block). Since a P400 is out of the question, a different approach will have to be taken.
Here is a 660 6.2 I picked up Wed. Ugly as it is, it's loose.

It's actually worse than my 6.5 block.
The PO of My truck has an interest in wanting to buy this crack free block that I have.
If He bails on his word then I could strap this crack free 6.5 onto a pallet and get it shipped to You.
If You want to make a drive, I’d do a days drive into Your direction and get it closer to You.

Dang. How are the heads? Them big valves make nice if not cracked.

Most of the take out 6.5 hmmwv engines have good blocks but cracked heads.
Maybe search that avenue if Marty’s doesn’t work out.

I have a spare but is my last ditch effort incase my current build lets go so I can punt away the hummer if needed.
 
There is another company that originally made that brass tube steam pocket kit, GOODSON. It has been posted here before. Machine shops across the country would buy from them for years. I requested a price quote from both.
I will be digging up another thread specifically about this to go over details and not muddy your forged piston thread.
 
When the seat is cracked the only fix is welding it- so the cost becomes WAY out of reach. Only super rare & expensive heads are worth doing that unless you can weld and want to challenge yourself in a new learning passage.

You arcair gouge the crack(s) out. Then the head goes in the oven for pre heat.
Bring it out and weld it up with the arc welder & proper rod. Then back into the oven to slowly cool it in stages. Then it comes out and sits on the bench where your die grinder and dremel go to work. Then it goes to the head shop to have the hardened seats installed unless you can diy that step. Then mill the head because it will have warped slightly.

As for the inserts to fight the crack issue- Nate started a thread here I dug up from the grave.
