My amber bulbs I bought last year are taking a dump...time for replacements.
9005's and 9006's will fit, I can find yellow, but I am curious how this is viewed...

The low beam bulbs have the cap on the tip - to reflect back into the housing? The high beam bulbs don't and are free to scatter light forward.

In the interests of focusing the beam and keep it from scattering up, I would think the low beam bulbs would utilize the housing better. They also have lower wattage than the highs, and heat would be a concern as well. Those housings are plastic, maybe they would suffer.

What do you think?

9005 high beams will fit in there like you said. They actually call for a 9145 bulb thats a 35(?) watt bulb.

There isnt much difference between the 9005 and the 9145. The connections are the same but the wattage is whats different. The bulbs should be identical on the outside but its the filaments is what makes the difference in the wattage that it can handle.

I dont think 9006 low beam bulbs will fit in there.

I ran those and didnt like them at all. I thought the light output was terrible and a fraction of the light that the stock bulbs put out. Besides, they werent amber, they were gold.

Not saying they werent good lights, I just didnt like them.

You can see how they have a gold tint vs the amber DRL's, which are a very deep amber and the perfect color for any fog light I think. Maybe I got a bad set, I dont know.

But this is what they look like.

Oz...get with James...I love my 9005 ambers...

I believe those are the ones I just burned out Pepp...couldn't remember where I got them, but that must've been it. When the fog sets in around here it's brutal...gotta get this dialled in and I want a focused beam so it doesn't spill upward.

I agree with Nick too...I would like the darker color, but yellow seems to be all I can find.

I got the amber drl's as well as the turns...love 'em. I got the ones with the blue tint on the bulb and they look great when the truck is not running too.

Only 9005 / 9145 / H10 will Fit in the Fogs. 9006's will not, without Modding the Housings.

If you got the Ambers from me, and they're taking a Crap, I'll Send you another Set if you want, just PM me with where to Send them to.

But if you wanna go with HID, then yea, 2500k-3000k is all you're gonna get which is a Golden-Yellow Color, unless you can get Hooked Up with Custom Bulbs to Put out a true Orange Color.

Hey James...I got my Denalis in...I'll be looking to HID the Lows soon...

Also: Are you saying someone does custom orange HID's for the fogs?

Usually, 3000k is the lowest most companies make and thats a gold, not amber.

I havent seen or heard of anyone making a true amber fog light bulb.

Copter over on DP did have some but I 'd have to ask him where he got them from. They were more of an amber than anything else I've seen.

Yep, someone out there does Custom Bulbs.

Here's a Guy with Orange HID in his Fogs:

so when you go to a different color range(say 2500-3000) do you lose output? distance?

Well 4300k is the Brightest / Best. Any Lower than that, you'll LOSE Output in Clear Weather, but GAIN Output in Rain / Snow / Fog, ect... Because the Lower "K" you go, it has less Reflectivity off the Foul Weather than the Higher "K" Bulbs.

I really like the Ambers I got from you...but would an amber HID have more? or about the same output as the amber 9005s considering the lower k HID's lose output/distance...

3000k HID would def. have more Light Output than the Bulbs you got from me in Foul Weather, but then also, Heat would come into Play with the Housings you have.

Sierra Fogs are ALOT Smaller than Silverado Fogs. So if you aren't having any Discoloration or Peeling of the Chrome with the Halogens, you should be ok with HID.

Thank you for the offer James...those are the darkest I've seen so far.
If they could be found, darker yet would be more desireable to match the drl's like Nick's pic shows...

Yea, the problem is, to get that much Color out of such a High Watt Bulb, they'd have to be COVERED in Orange on the Bulb Glass and well over 100w/ea to get that kind of Color.

The reason the Marker Bulbs can do it, is because they are Low Watt, Heavily Colored Bulbs.
