Flywheel replacement starter not meshing properly/ hard starts hot.

The pump is from my NA motor and it was my understanding that it needs to be turned up 1/4 of a turn to run it with a turbo. If this isn't true then I won't bother the pump but I thought the 1/4 turn compensated for the turbo being added.

You are correct for the IP going from NA to turbo. Add 1/4 turn.

Turbo to turbo you can go another 1/4 turn or more with more boost. Guess it wasn't clear to me what you were doing...

Did you find out what locked up your engine? I have had starters do the clunk thing and be a bad starter. -Just saying.
I'm pulling my motor this evening but I may have discovered what happened to my locked up motor. The "oil cooler" lines were plugged off! I have read that these are pretty darn important and you risk breaking the crank due to lack of oil. It was plugged off when I bought the truck but I guarantee that I'll be installing new lines & a new cooler! This may be a little harsh thinking the crank broke because the truck never gave me any indication of any problems whatsoever. All I done was shut it off and try to restart it about a half hour later. It will be a couple weeks before I can tear it down but I will definitely let ya know my findings.

FUN

I started pulling things from the bottom side first & was wondering how to get the torque convertor bolts out but as I started to turn the crank, it spun! The motor was free as a bird and I have no idea what is going on. Do you have any ideas? I have stopped tearing this thing apart for now. Has anyone run into this before? The starter gear was into the ring gear since I thought I'd give it one more try before I pulled it in the garage and it remained locked up. I'm excited but still pretty darn confused as to why it was not cranking or turning over with a pry bar. A buddy of mine grabbed the flywheel and turned it by hand and we went back & forth to make sure there was no play from one end of the crank to the other. LOL I"m really hoping to just install my oil cooler lines & put this back together and swap out my IP.

Likely the starter bound up with the flywheel. You may have a gas flywheel or starter with the shim noise/problem. Flywheel/flexplate with starter ring gear is specific to diesel. You exchanged this starter? Also if you are Manual Trans the nosecone has less metal around it than an auto. Parts houses get this mixed up...
